Wording of Sundering Titan

Most people are familiar with the card Sundering Titan as the best possible card to search via Tinker but I don't quite understand why, mainly due to the wording of Sundering Titan . Can someone give me a more-clear version of Sundering Titan 's effect?
It destroys a Forest , Plains , Mountain , Island , AND a Swamp if they exist.
Since duals and shocks have the basic land types, they can also be targeted.
Essentially you get to destroy up to 5 of your opponent's lands. It can lead to a major blowout.

For each basic land type, (Plains , Island , Swamp , Mountain , Forest ), you choose a land on the battlefield. If a land has more than one basic type (Temple Garden , etc.), it can be chosen more than once. If no land of a particular type exists, you don't choose anything for that type. Everything you chose gets destroyed. In some formats, the worst result you're going to get is destroying only 3 opposing lands and 1 of your own. It's a really strong effect.

So you're saying that if they have Watery Grave , Overgrown Tomb , and Sacred Foundry out, I can pick Watery Grave for Swamp and Island, Overgrown Tomb for Forest, and Sacred Foundry for Plains and Mountain, thus destroying those 3 lands and keeping my lands intact?
But if they only have Sacred Foundry and Overgrown Tomb as lands, and I have Breeding Pool , all three of our lands will be destroyed, unless I can pick another target for Sundering Titan ?
Sorry if I'm making that sound more confusing than it needs to be, I'm just trying to clarify.

Yep. Rhadamanthus pretty much quoted the oracle on it. You must choose a land of each of the 5 basic types unless one of them is not in play. So if your opponent just has those two lands out and the only island in play is a breeding pool, then that gets destroyed. One thing to note that they are not targeted lands so if you somehow managed to give a land shroud, it wouldn't help.

Tinkering into a sundering titan is an impressive land destruction effect. Most decks that run these two cards are also going to be playing against decks that run revised lands which each have basic land types. So in many cases by bringing out sundering titan you wipe out your opponent's lands entirely. Since land destruction is so powerful to begin with, this is a ridiculous ability.
