Two headed giant format

I was just wondering how many people play the two headed giant format. I noticed there are not really any 2 player decks on this site or even a searchable format for it even. So i decided to list a bunch of two player decks i play with on mtgo

im just kinda shocked that this site dosnt have a category for multiplayer decks. the game type is completely different from what you would build for a 1v1 match. also having an option for linking two teamed decks would b helpful as well.

ive found that i enjoy playing 2hg more than 1v1 now, there is so much more strat involved. dual deck synergy, strategic one person withdrawal etc.

my small group of friends and i have been playing mtg i think since late 1994 or early 1995. we don't play often but we always play 2HG if at all possible.
if we don't have even numbers to form teams we play different styles of multiplayer games. we only duel as a last resort.
we don't have themed decks that work perfectly together. we all just kinda do our own things and switch partners after each game. by the end of the night you were everyones partner at least once.
if you look at my profile i've listed which decks i use in 2HG in each decks title.
as a matter of fact, for the first time in 18 years my little group is going to have two themed decks. my friend, karrie, has had a discard deck for many years, and a few nights ago i actually ordered the one that is in my profile. should get it in a few days. really looking forward to teaming up with karrie and seeing if two discard decks can destroy the other team.
we've never tried emporer but it sounds great. 2HG though is just the BOMB!

yeah i know what u mean even if we dont have enough for a 2h giant sometimes we will have one person using 2 decks. with the increase of cards being played the fun of the game raises dramatically. you might not have gotten the top deck you were looking for to deal with so and so. but your partner could.
alot of people dont understand how much the game changes with an increased health pool leaving room for some of the more higher mana cost fun cards.
ill b sure to check out your decks
overall i would like to see the 2hg format gain more popularity amongst the magic community. after all why else do we play magic if not to have fun with our friends. why not take it to the next lvl and play with, and agaist them.

totally agree about the added fun of playing the more higher mana cost cards. that's really the thing that can hook people into this format. you can play those slower decks that you NEVER whip out for duels.
there is a down side though. things like Time Warp and Pestilence gain so much power as they do twice the result.
but then again, my deck that has Burgeoning out when there are a few Howling Mine s and Horn of Greed s (which my little group of friends always uses) out can be OH so much fun to play! laying 4+ lands a turn and bringing out all the massive cards. can you say Kozilek, Butcher of Truth ? :)
even though my friends and i only play about 3 to 6 times a year, talking about this makes me want to call off work today and form up the team.

and just fyi, below is the link for the 2HG rules in case you want it.
at least, i think it is. i can't get to the link here at work because it's listed as 'games' in my firewall.

yeah there are a few cards that become op when used in 2gh like Serra Ascendant first turn 6/6 lifelink flying Exsanguinate doubles the damage Lighthouse Chronologist all the more turns and if ure partner has one your opponents dont get a turn anymore Sorin Markov is just mean. there are a bunch more but i think u get the point. alot of it deals with player integrity some frown on the use of such cards and others say bring anything and everything you got. personally i think it adds a nice twist because everything can b countered in one way or another such is the fun of magic.

keep in mind that there is a formula for calculating life totals so Serra Ascendant would actually be fine to use. the same goes for Sorin Markov when setting a life total. see below.
quoted from DCI Two-Headed Giant FAQ May 1, 2007:
"If an effect needs to know what a players life total is, what number do I use?
If an effect needs to know the value of an individual players life total, that effect uses the teams life total divided by two, rounded up, instead.
Example: In a Two-Headed Giant game, a team is at 17 life when a player activates Heartless Hidegetsus ability, which reads, Heartless Hidetsugu deals to each player damage equal to half that players life total, rounded down. For the purposes of this ability, each player on that team is considered to be at 9 life. Heartless Hidetsugu deals 4 damage to each of those players, for a total of 8 damage. The team will end up at 9 life.
Example: In a Two-Headed Giant game, a player controls Test of Endurance, an enchantment that reads, At the beginning of your upkeep, if you have 50 or more life, you win the game. At the beginning of your upkeep, the players team wins the game only if his or her share of the teams life total is 50 or more. The teams life total must be 99 or more for that to happen.
Example: In a Two-Headed Giant game, a player controls Lurking Jackals, which reads, When an opponent has 10 life or less, if Lurking Jackals is an enchantment, it becomes a 3/2 Hound creature. If the opposing team has 22 life and 1 damage to a particular opponent, Lurking Jackals wont become a creature. The opposing teams life total must be 20 or less for that to happen.
If an effect sets a life total for each player on a team to a specific number, what number do I set the life total to?
If an effect would set the life total of each player on a team to a number, the result is the sum of all the numbers.
Example: In a Two-Headed Giant game, a player plays Biorhythm, which reads, Each players life total becomes the number of creatures he or she controls. If one member of a team controls three creatures and the other member controls four creatures, that teams life total becomes 7.
If an effect sets a single players life total to a number, what number so I set the Teams life total to?
If an effect would set a single players life total to a number, that players individual life total becomes that number. The team's life total is adjusted by the amount that player's life total was adjusted.
Example: In a Two-Headed Giant game, a player on a team that has 25 life plays a spell that reads, your life total becomes 20. That players life total is considered to be 13 for the purpose of the spell, so that players life total becomes 20 and the teams life total becomes 32."

2HG is probably one of my favorites. To me, the more people playing and the crazier the decks, the more fun it is

quick 2hg question:
if my partner Lightning Bolt ed each opponent once during their turn, would Bloodchief Ascension receive one or two quest counters at the beginning of their End Step?

interesting reading the dci rules about 2hg health. when i play mtgo 2hg the healthpool is treated as just one pool so Sorin Markov would set there health at 10 even if they had 40 and the Serra Ascendant is a first turn 6/6 flying lifelink
and as for your question the ascension would only receive one counter because the card reads " if an opponent" not "for each opponent" however, a way around that would b to simply do it on the next turn and not use them on the same turn.

btw if ure running the Bloodchief Ascension u could always throw in a Mindcrank and use that infinite combo lol. i used to hate when people used those 2 in combination. infinite damage and life gain at the same time yay!
March 28, 2012 4:30 p.m.
haha, yeah, it looks like fun. i have that in my maybe list on my discard deck. it's kinda cheesy. i think i might put it in until i get the combo on my friends, then, after they calm down, pull it back out :)
... just to do it once.

yeah personally i dont like to run cheese just because i dont find it fun. but some people do but i dont mind if they use it makes it a bit more challenging for an even more satisfying win =D

@nether and Brall
I'm afraid that information regarding 2HG life totals is outdated. If something needs to know an individual player's life total in 2HG, it uses the team's total instead.
810.9a If a cost or effect needs to know the value of an individual players life total, that cost or effect uses the teams life total instead.Example: In a Two-Headed Giant game, a player on a team that has 17 life is targeted by Beacon of Immortality, which reads, in part, Double target players life total. That player gains 17 life, so the team winds up at 34 life.

I play 2hg on mtgo. I like to get on skype with my friend that way we can talk about whats going on in the game. Also its fun because my friend like to use elves and I will use a top tier burn deck. Burn is fast and we all know how elves can be. It is also fun to play sliver decks with a friend since a lot of slives give all other slivers different abilities.

My store actually has standard and legacy 2hg couple nights a week. I usually attend with a friend, and I play mill while he plays discard in legacy.
