This might be a dumb question but I can't understand why Gaeas Cradle is $160 and Tolarian Academy is $23??
Why is there a big discrepancy in price. This is to assume theres more demand on Gaeas Cradle than Tolraian Academy?

Yeah basically because you can use Gaea's Cradle in legacy, mainly in elves which is pretty popular. Not to mention the last year legendary rule change meant you could run the full playset instead of 2-3.
Tolarian Academy is restricted in vintage obviously because of being able to drop moxes and black lotus.

Cradle is required as a 4 of in Elves while Academy is banned in Legacy and restricted in Vintage.

So then I guess my question is, why is Academy banned in EDH, but not Cradle?

If I had to make an educated guess it would be the prevalence of cards that turn other things into artifacts, (Lookin' at you Mycosynth Lattice) and being able to run 8 of the 0 cost artifacts like Memnite and Ornithopter combined with the already powerful tools that come with running blue.
I'm sure one of the other users will have a much more detailed explanation on why it's banned.

One good reason for this in edh is that most creatures get wiped and targeted for removal easier. Artifact wipe more rare and artifact board wipe even more so. Think about this, gaea's cradle can be a 4 of in vintage and tolarian academy only a 1 of in vintage. This has to do with all the moxes obviously, but edh has similar cards too.

Tolarian Academy and Mishra's Workshop have been banned in Legacy for quite some time. Both are extremely potent and can make for very fast, game changing plays. With the inclusion of artifact lands in Mirrodin (was Academy banned before this, I think?), it makes it even more ridiculous.
As previously mentioned, Gaea's Cradle is a staple for Legacy Elves. It's potency in that deck is amazing, and required to maintain a competitive level of play in the format. So yes, there is a higher demand for Cradle and Academy is just broken.
Out of curiosity, does anyone know when Academy was banned in Legacy?

If I recall I thought Tolarian Academy was banned in standard because you could deck someone with Stroke of Genius really quick using a combo. At the time Lotus Petal, Ancient Tomb, Mox Diamond, Mind Over Matter was key to this deck and City of Traitors were legal at this time.
