Debt to the Deathless?

Deck Help forum

I think Debt to the Deathless has such great potential in meta as a win condition. I'm wondering if there is some way in standard to make this card useful in an B/W extort deck with mana ramp or something. Thoughts?

I'm not sure how you might pull it off in B/W. If you have some green, Verdant Havens will double the mana output of some lands. It's why I have this card in my Selesnya deck. I think the card is a good one for sure, though it's a late game card.

It's not really a card that can outrace aggro all on its own. Maybe Esper control? That might let you gather up the lands you need to make an effective Debt to the Deathless kill. Crypt Ghast would be ideal but would be targeted pretty quickly, so that's not a likely option.

lets assume you get 10 mana out, which is resaonable for a control deck. You could cast Sphinx's Revelation for 7 cards and life. Against all but the most resilient decks, this wins you the game, especially considering you'll chain it into another revelation, for 8. That's whatg control decks do right now. However, with that ten mana, you could deal 12 to them and gain 12 yourself. That's pretty good, but two things make it a worse win condition than revelation. The first, It's a sorcery. End step revelations are much better than main phase ones. Also, it costs at least 7 or 8 mana to be worth it and before then does about nothing. Against aggro popping a revelation for even 2 or 3 cards can let you live for a turn and draw you into a Supreme Verdict . Debt to the Deathless is certainly a fine card, but it cannot do what Sphinx's Revelation can do for the control decks, and as such there is no room for it in the meta.

This isnt much to do with your question, though i just wanted to state that i was playing Pack Wars with my friend, we both drew a Debt to the Deathless . I played mine first, tapping X= 5 (loss of 10, gain of 10) then he did the same and tapped X=5. Resulting in nothing happening. Thought that was quiet humorous.

It is a great card, and has heaps of potential.

Although, some kind of junk build post-rotation might be able to squeeze it in once the Hoof and the Rites go away. But cartwheelnurd summed it up completely, the best spot for it already is occupied by a superior spell.

Not necessarily a Liliana of the Dark Realms ultimate could ramp the crap out of it. Especially with a Crypt Ghast

Id probably use it in a deck that has ALOT of creature kill. With orzhov, Murder , Oblivion Ring , Tragic Slip . Or even shut down cards like, Pacifism , Arrest , and One Thousand Lashes

Mana ramp is a must. Most people have mentioned options for that, but if you can pay the 3 mana for the Vizkopa Guildmage s second ability, then you're doing quadruple X damage. That's definitely a lot of mana, but that can potentially end the game. It would only work in a super heavy control deck if you were planning on getting that much mana. Also, that combo is a winner for multiplayer.

Sorry to double post, but I forgot about throwing in a Rhox Faithmender . Then you're doing six times X damage.
