Soul Chamber

Legendary Artifact

Whenever you cast a creature spell, you may exile it. If you do, it gains a soul counter.

Pay the casting cost of a creature card exiled with Soul Chamber, : Create a token copy of that creature card onto the battlefield under your control.

Eternal servitude is but the smallest of prices one can expect to pay, for everlasting immortality.

TheOfficialCreator, you seem to like my content. Thoughts? I wasn't sure how to word the activation cost properly.

This is a fun one. Typically this is worded along the lines of:

:Create a token that is a copy of a card exiled with a soul counter. is the converted mana cost of the card.

Necrosis24 true, but making players use colored mana is important here. Otherwise Ashnod's Altar and Corridor Monitor would go infinite. This is a little harder to abuse in that way.

That being said, it should still not be written as stated properly.

SynergyBuild, thoughts on wording so I can update it?

SynergyBuild Good point in which you have a couple options. If you want the player to pay only the total cmc of the card then you can add n color pips to the cost and add a clause “X is the cmc of the card reduced by n”

Ex) : Create a token copy of a card exiled with a soul counter. is the cmc of the card reduced by .

Or if you want to make the total cost more than the cards cmc you can do the same as above and just not add the clause.

Ex) : Create a token copy of a card exiled with a soul counter. is the cmc of the card.

I greatly enjoy the card. It reminds me of some card, I can't remember which one.

It doesn't feel particularly black, though. That's not a necessity of course but I might add some kind of additional cost to create the copy, perhaps while lowering the cmc of the base card? This would also be a neat way to work around the infinite combos that SynergyBuild put forth.

Something like or for the base card, but you also have to pay life equal to its converted mana cost? And in that case you could also consider making it one cost for any creature you're casting.

Because you've already sunk so much mana into this card, why not be able to just crank them out without sinking mana in each time? Paying life makes a bit more sense aesthetically esp. with the "Soul" aspect of it.

TypicalTimmy Direct translation to the properly rulings-corrected card looks like this:

Legendary Artifact

Whenever you cast a creature spell, you may exile it. If you do, it gains a soul counter.

Pay the casting cost of a creature card exiled with Soul Engine, : Create a token copy of that creature card onto the battlefield under your control.

Reasons for this are that it's not a creature being copied, it's a creature card, and the casting cost cannot target. The rest is minor changes, but it's as close as possible to the written card you made.

The closest examples of this style of card are Prototype Portal and Eye of the Storm in my opinion.

Wait I think I’ve got it!

Tap: you may cast target creature card in exile with a void counter on it, when you do, create a token that’s a copy of target creature, the original card stays exiled

Maybe?

It's an interesting card and has parallels to Soul Foundry except you have to pay twice for the creature you cast to get the first token.

Perhaps it could be considered to have the creature spell you exile create a token as well? So if someone blows up the Soul Chamber you haven't been 2-for-1'ed?

Something like:

"Whenever you cast a creature spell, you may exile it with a Soul counter on it and copy the spell. (The copy becomes a token.)

: Copy a creature card you own exiled with a Soul counter on it. You may cast the copy."

This means you still get the original creature you cast so you wont kneecap your tempo nor set yourself up for getting 2-for-1'ed for nothing. The first cast keeps the option to get countered (well the token copy at least). The copy and cast also means you have to pay any additional costs and can utilize optional additional costs (like kicker) and even alternative costs - since you don't cast the copy without paying its mana cost. Paying the costs during resolution of the ability also means you cannot get Trickbind'ed as if it was a Counterspell and you first pick what to copy on resolution. Also it looks a bit cleaner.

An alternative Show
