Big Overhaul —June 25, 2019

Swapping out commanders, and changing the deck to Grixis. Not a whole ton of mechanical changes, deck should do the same job, just with another color.

I'm actually brewing something similar, except it relies more on casting my opponent's spells from their hand rather than recursion. The catch to my commander being better than Sen Triplets however, is being tournament unfriendly. Of course, I'm referring to the deviously odd X. I'd love to give you some input as long as you give me some of your own, building abduction is a pain considering how much of a niche it is.

is an awesome commander, and so are Sen Triplets; I've actually considered Sen Triplets for this deck, but, well, they're kinda spendy, and besides that fact, I'd prefer to just stick to Dimir.

Also, sure, I'll let you know what I think of your deck! X looks like a powerful commander to build with. What do you think of mine? Any suggestions?

Your commander might find a home in my The Old Grixis Mill. I like the concept of using other people's cards. Mostly so that I can free up space for more fun cards and just use their single target removal and board wipe cards. Which cards have you managed to see consisitantly work? I managed one frying sanity traumatize combo and had to shelf the deck in that playgroup...

Well, I'll start with the creature base to start with. You largely have the right idea with your creatures (Gonti and Sanity Thief are basically mandatory), and your creatures are largely on-curve, and considering the lack of proper low-cost abduction utility it's looking pretty good. I'm still inclined to suggest Hostage Taker nonetheless. You seem to be leaning towards more high end cards, and as someone who got a ton recently for free, Rhystic Study is a must-include. If you don't want to spend 15$ on a copy I'd love to trade (I have 6)! The mana-base could use work, mainly the fact that some of your lands aren't being very resourceful (Urborg? For what, that Tainted isle? Why not use a bicycler instead, or even some pimped out foil swamps from Mercadian Masques?). There's a lot of Counterspells, but it should be fine since you're playing good ol' pal Wrexial. Asides from that I don't have too many other probs with this deck, so far so good. I do want to mention that if you do take a look at Larcenic Mercury, keep in mind that I've been focusing tons more on my Phage the Untouchable deck and my Aristokitten deck, and a lot of the criticisms I used could be applied to my own janky build.

I've considered Mystic Remora over Rhystic Study, any reasons for one over the other? I like the 1 cmc of Remora, and the counter cost of 4; also, by the time it's been out for 2 or 3 turns, it's done what it needs to do.

I might consider putting in Hostage Taker, but what to take out...

I try to stuck away from broken or infinite combos like that; I just added Duskmantle Guildmage for the combo with Mindcrank, but, I'm trying to stay away from lots of surefire combos; I like the randomness and long gameplay of EDH, so combos that can end things really quickly don't appeal too muhh to me.

Startled Awake  Flip has been very effective, and pulling it in and out of the graveyard is oh-so-very satisfying. Gonti, Lord of Luxury is also super awesome, and on the same note, Thief of Sanity is just as sweet; I'd say I like thief even more, cuz he puts the rest of the cards in the graveyard, which is much easier to go grab those cards back out of than their library.

If you want to increase the clock of the game while keeping it balanced Mesmeric Orb is fun. I plan to build another sidisi deck running it.
