Jax Game Center: 2 Consecutive Top 8 Performances —Feb. 9, 2015

The deck is performing well. I've faced a lot of strong decks and come out ahead. Also, re-setting comments.

Friday, February 6 (FNM)

Undefeated. Split with the Top 4, but I had the best record. Giving me first place!

  • Round 1: Abzan Aggro; 2-0 Win

  • Round 2: Mardu Warriors Aggro; 2-1 Win

  • Round 3: Heroic; 2-0 Win

  • Round 4: Abzan Midrange; 2-1 Win

  • Round 5: Heroic; 2-1 Win

  • Top 8, Round 1: Control; 2-0 Win

Sunday, February 8 (Win-a-Box Tourney)

Another Top 8 performance! With only 1 loss (and a tie) I was tied for first place!

  • Round 1: Heroic; 2-0 Win

  • Round 2: Jund Reanimator; 2-1 Win

  • Round 3: Mono-Red Aggro; 2-1 Win

  • Round 4: Mardu Midrange; 1-1-1 Tie

  • Round 5: Mardu Tokens; 1-2, Loss

  • Top 8, Round 1: Mardu Tokens (same opponent as Round 5); 2-0 Win

Hmm...lose Dissolve for either Chandra mainboard or Ashcloud Phoenix? Lose a Mystic for a Temple of Mystery?

+1 from me and one question:

How has this performed against the various decks: Jeskai Tokens Sidisi Whip Mardu Midrange Abzan Whip and U/W Heroic

I actually don't know yet. I haven't taken it to an FNM yet. I'm worried that it isn't as consistent as it needs to be. I can tell that U/W Heroic will be difficult for Game 1. But as for the rest I'm not sure.

I'm thinking of:

The other big debates are on the SB.

Then there is the success of lists like these to consider. Many competitive Temur decks have board similar to this, while my current list opts for more control and board manipulation. I'm thinking I need to adopt one theme and go hard with it. I'm not good enough with board control to actually do much with it...all it actually does is detract from my monsters offense, which is how I want to win. Thoughts?

Okay then which focus: Aggression or Control? This will help design what spells you actually need. From huge amounts of Temur decks aggro is the way but I have seen some competitive Temur Control decks. They have been interesting but they have worked.

Maybe we could try to come up with a list for each, and then I could settle on which style of play I prefer for Temur. Whaddya say?

I play competitive Temur Control. It's essentially Blue-Red Splash Green for knuckleblades and Surrak. I have won 8 and lost 1 on the Untap ladder. My list is here: http://tappedout.net/mtg-decks/rhino-punchers/

I'm cool with that! Here's my aggressive list (it's my brothers): Time for Knuckle Sandwiches! (Temur Aggro)

Then can this list be the control one?

i would change reclimation sage to 1 back to nature to destroy the constilation deck, u/b heroic, suside black agro(with master of the feast, herald of tourmant and spiteful returned) or rabble red with a ton of things like hammer hand or dragons mantle i would also suggest one unravel the aether to either deal with u/r artifacts or deal with a courser of kruphix or a random god that someone is running and or the third spot of that i would run either a xenagod to help with a midrange game or at least one copy of anger of the gods to just hammer any sort of agro deck

mentor6, don't worry. Temur Charm and Savage Punch are coming in. I apologize for the disappointment.

Thanks for the suggestions, cjk191997. I think I'll roll wIth Back to Nature at least.

What's the verdict on Ashcloud Phoenix? Should I run it?
