Commander 2019 & MagicFest Birmingham —Sept. 8, 2019

So I have put some serious reps into this deck and was amazed at how well it performed.

It was clear that Valakut, the Molten Pinnacle is just too slow for this deck. It comes into play tapped and we never get to enough mountains for it to bolt. I have dropped this in favour of Crystal Vein. This gives us another opportunity to power out an earlier win.

With Commander 2019 dropping I am playtesting Dockside Extortionist for the ramp in place of Goblin Bushwhacker and Sanctum of Eternity in place of a Mountain to beat commander tax on the third sac allowing us to combo a turn earlier.

mariowen How is Pashalik Mons working out for you? Just to let you know I'm almost done building this deck. It's really sweet!

VaalVanir I am very pleased to hear you are enjoying the deck. Pashalik Mons is a Boggart Shenanigans with the added utility of an infinite mana sink. I would much prefer another way of getting to infinite mana or ramp but it works as a fine substitute until wizards prints us something broken. Plus you can see the players with board wipes in their hands doing the math of how much they will take to the face following a wrath.

I don’t think we would want to include Vicious Shadows . It has a prohibitively high cmc and the card doesn’t do enough on its own. To make it work, you would need a sac outlet in play, and to win, infinite mana. At that point, you are already winning!

Will be running this deck all weekend at MagicFest Birmingham next week so I will really be able to put this build through its paces.

Thank you for commenting! Check out Dockside Extortionist (Commander 2019). Maybe we have a chance to win on turn 3 now.

By the way I have swapped in the two fetch-lands you have in your Maybeboard, and the result is sub-par. I really don't think we need to spend that kind of money of those fatch-lands.

I have swapped out Aggravated Assault for Goblin Shenanigans because my meta is stax heavy and i'm pretty sick of those Cursed Totem on turn 2.

I have swapped out Altar of Dementia for Extraplanar Lens because ... why not use the Snow covered mountains to our advantage.

So far this deck has won on turn 4 a total of 2 times out of 4 against a pod consisting of TnT, Urza, and Yagmoth. And these are tuned decks. It is way more consistent than Urza but has way less interaction than TnT.

It feels like my lines of winning keep changing with every draw. I do wish we had other ways to draw our library, i don't really care about discarding the stuff I don't need to win next turn.

Thanks for making this deck, it's very consistent and feels buttery smooth to play.
