RIP Swan Song. $10 is just too much for a counterspell. The good news is Miscast is actually a great card of an almost similar power level.

On the watch list: Reiterate, Mystical Tutor, Fellwar Stone, Enter the Infinite.

  • Mystical Tutor has a unique effect, so it's hard to replace, but that $18 is steeeeeep.

  • Reiterate is also unique but the particular combo kill it unlocks isn't super necessary in my mind.

  • Enter the Infinite is an "I win" button with high tide or mind's desire and it prevents fizzles by its nature, but $5 is at the point where it's iffy whether or not that matters and if it should be replaced with Apex of Power.

  • Fellwar Stone is the best of the 2-mana rocks, it's cool people finally figured this out I guess? But it's good specifically because it fixes for up to 5 colors, whereas we only care about 2 colors, so this particular effect isn't unique as far as our deck is concerned and it might be worth pulling it soon.

@Fallerup Good question. I just figured Think Twice is cuttabl, but I put Narset's Reversal in its place instead. Perhaps you might want to cut Unwind? Sometimes that card is amazing but it can be a very hit or miss card.

ok, it is a free counterspell, so that may be a bad idea. at first glance of your list I would say Submerge looks very expensive for what it does and is therefor cuttable in my opinion. unless there is something very important you use it for.

Given that Past in Flames is the best card of the deck, what are your thoughts on Underworld Breach? It's kinda similar though I can see how by the time you already have enough cards in grave for it to be good the game would already be over. Also, what about Narset, Parter of Veils? Can't protect it and it just ends up being a mediocre draw spell?

@Klapp

Narset is 3 mana impulse without an ability to protect it and it doesn't trigger Mizzix. Would not bother but some people might disagree?

Underworld Breach seems OK but not sure. It's definitely playable with fetches, but on a budget it's a tougher sell.

p0megranates thanks for your input, it's very cool to get tips directly from the deck's creator. I really liked your list and am trying to put it together. I'm gonna test Underworld Breach with Fabled Passage as the only "fetch" and see how i feel about it.

Regarding Narset I guess you make a compelling argument, in the end I guess it's just not worth it.

Unless a miracle happens and Swan Song declines, I'm gonna sub out Swan Song for Miscast once M21 releases. As good as Swan Song is, $9 is way too much for a counterspell. This should push the budget back down to a more reasonable level.
