This is really tough. I had to scoop against it twice in a row. I could have played them out but it would have been pointless just dragging out the inevitable.

Thanks Quadsimotto! I've been playing around with it a bit lately and this seems to be the most consistent setup so far.

Is there a reason for City of Brass over Mana Confluence, besides price point?

UrbanAnathema says... #5

Nope. That's about it. I own the actual deck and don't feel Mana Confluence is worth 10 a pop.

Not to mention the benefit of one over the other is pretty minimal. If City of Brass hurt me when it was snagged by Primeval Titan and Mana Confluence didn't I might consider switching.. But the cost/benefit just doesn't match up currently.

Love the deck, but I feel it is a really bad mach-up against hate-bears. This deck just falls over to Qasali Pridemage , Suppression Field , and Linvala, Keeper of Silence . Maybe 3-4 Path to Exile could be main-boarded?

Thanks Scorprix Yes, it will definitely be vulnerable to certain matchups. Its why I'm running 5 cards that can remove permanents. Path to Exile is there in the sideboard if I am having particular trouble with certain creatures, but otherwise I prefer to have the versatility of Oblivion Ring and Cyclonic Rift as they can target any non-land permanent that is giving me trouble. With the ramp, mana generally isn't an issue. But, yes if I am suddenly up against a deck that is running creatures that thwart my combo, Path to Exile can be easily sideboarded in.

To assure a T3-T5 win why not add another Birds of Paradise for ramp and Bloom Tender . You could substitute these in for 2xOblivion Ring ?

Hey 40cal Bloom Tender doesn't always get me what I need. Often I can have infinite green mana and nothing to do with it. So running a 3OF rather than a 4OF seems to work best. Also, given the fact that the deck is vulnerable to combo killing permanents like Pithing Needle and the like, its good to run a fair amount of solutions to those threats which Oblivion Ring as the "swiss army knife of removal" provides in spades.

I see do you think you could create this deck for casual?

Swords to Plowshares subsituted in for Oblivion Ring 1 drop versus a 3 drop and this decks wincon is mainly infinite combos so no matter if they get a little bit of life.

Swords doesn't feel with threats like Pithing Needle unfortunately.

Need the ability to remove artifacts and enchantment combo hate.

Wall of Denial is a great 3 drop defender.

Also Perimeter Captain ends up filling a similar role as attack deterrent at a much lower CMC, as an opponent doesn't want to watch me gain a bunch of life using multiple defenders to block one creature.

For sideboard Path to Exile sub for Swords to Plowshares since they dont get a land and this deck runs on infinite combo so little bit of life wont do much.

Wow this is a fantastic deck, I love the synergy and the combos. I did some playtesting against my Modern decks, Big Boss Krenko and Affinity Dudes, and I would run over you before you got set up about 4 out of every 5 games. There were those one games where you'd combo off by turn 4 or 5 or so and there was nothing I could do about it, but if I got a decent hand I'd flatten you before you could get even a second defender out. Not to belittle your deck by any means, you definitely know what you're doing. Just a heads up that blitz aggro might be really tough in a tournament. I'm afraid I have no suggestions though, I'm just getting into Modern so I apologize. All I can think of would be like a Circle of Flame in the sideboard. I'm sure there's better options but if you had one of those on the field against my Goblins, I would have been considerably slower.

Hey CrovaxTheCursed thanks for the feedback! I had pulled Story Circle from the sideboard but I guess I need to put it back. Both your decks seem awesome. Welcome to Modern! :)

I have added Circle of Flame as well as readded Story Circle will continue to play with the sideboard to deal with Blitz Aggro. Thanks!

August 7, 2014 2:40 p.m.

Ah, Story Circle is nice, never seen that before. It may not be too effective against the goblins since you'd have to leave 5-8 white mana open to stop all my dudes each turn, but definitely can shut down a Voltron style player, excellent sideboard option. Which just got me thinking, Wall of Essence would really slow me down too as well as Perimeter Captain . Again, I'm not sure how viable those are in Modern, but certainly hinders aggro in Standard. Oh and Jdvanliew I would be more than happy to critique your deck if you like. I believe I have commented on that deck before, the title looks familiar.

Yep already run two Perimeter Captain in the main board but will consider adding two to the sideboard as I own a playset. May be the most viable solution.
