Yes! We finally have enough early curve angel tribal synergy to make a modern angels deck with the printing of angel themed cards in both M20 and Modern Horizons. M20 brought us two key pieces with Bishop of wings and angel of vitality, which is a combo that has seen some play in standard already and even in draft, if you’re lucky. Modern horizons brought us a silly one drop angel in segovian angel a 1/1 flying vigilance. We combine early humans with early angels and something heavenly is created. Along with modern’s turn 1 aether vial we certainly have something unfair going for us. Let’s break it down!

The early game can do stuff like martyr proc, a mono white control deck that’s been around for some time now. You sac martyr of sands revealing all the white cards in your hand and gain that much life x3. Unfortunately, as control this was more detrimental when your opponent could figure how to best play around your hand once revealed, but with tribal aggro, we don’t care as much. Once are life total is in the skies, we follow this up with turn two plays like a one drop 6/6 flying lifelink in serra ascendant, an honorary angel, or turn three plays like angel of vitality, essentially a 4/4 flyer for three mana. And with this and bishop of wings on the field we gain 5 life instead of four every time an angel hits the field. This is a sweet combo when resplendent angel is in play because we manage to always create a 4/4 flying vigilance angel at end steps. Throw in the fact that we can also play angels on the opponents turn with aether to quickly create two angels total before our next attack on turn 4 or 5 instead. The damage can quickly add up when they’re all practically unblockable and you’ve gained enough life to outclass burn and any aggros in the modern pool. Emancipation angel’s normally detrimental effect becomes a solid synergy especially with segovian angel allowing you to cheaply bounce a one-drop angel and maybe replay the same turn for even more lifegain and angels, it can also be aethered in to dodge removal for any of your other creatures, particularly bishop of wings, and it sees the bishop before the bishop leaves, so he still activates. Since we’re naturally white, we have easy access to some of the best removal in modern in path to exile and can play rest in peace in the sideboard for any lingering graveyard shenanigans post-Faithless Hogaak era. The angels will purify your opponents and bring salvation to even the most dismal game plans.
