Sentinel of the Nameless City

Creature — Merfolk Warrior Scout

Vigilance

Whenever Sentinel of the Nameless City enters the battlefield or attacks, create a Map token. (It's an artifact with ", , Sacrifice this artifact: Target creature you control explores. Activate this ability only as a sorcery. To have it explore, reveal the top card of your library. Put that card into your hand if it's a land. Otherwise, put a !/! counter on that creature, then put the card back or put it into your graveyard.)

Dimir Phoenix: ❌✅✅

Lost every game where my deck didn’t get off the ground (and against Amalia bc that deck is insane). Dimir Phoenix was won by switching out of combo mode & beating down with Mosswood Dreadknight, Sentinel of the Nameless City & Sheoldred, the Apocalypse.

Note to self & others: a hand of three lands, one Raffine's Informant and two Witherbloom Commands is not keepable. No route to Fang :p

So after some playtesting, I found the new set actually offered a lot of value to this archetype, and some of it from cards I didn't even consider initially.

Sunken Citadel adds some extra value, particularly alongside Castle Garenbrig. Spelunking is another card that adds some great value to the archetype. These all have some downsides to be weary of though, with that land being a tapped source, and Spelunking essentially turning off Amulet of Vigor. They all synergize well with each other, although they have some anti-synergy with some of the other cards in the deck. I'm still tweaking numbers for some of them in my "tuned-up" deck, but they definitely make some great budget options.

Sentinel of the Nameless City and Hulking Raptor are also some filler creature options. Once again, probably not the most ideal options, but definitely worthy of consideration.

Expect to see some updates to both this and the budget version of this deck shortly.
