Containment Breach

Sorcery — Lesson

Destroy target artifact or enchantment. If it's converted mana cost/mana value is 2 or less, create a 1/1 black and green Pest creature token with "When this creature dies (is put into your graveyard from the battlefield, tokens are put into the graveyard before they cease to exist), you gain 1 life."

Some thoughts:

  • Your current mana curve makes me think you should be running 22-23 lands. 20 feels much too low, especially as you really need to reach 3 mana.

  • Having nothing to do turn 1 feels like a really bad idea - it means every game you're starting a full turn behind your opponent. I'd suggest getting some 1-mana cards involved in the deck.

  • You have basically no direct interaction to disrupt what your opponent is doing, which is a really dangerous place to be - as letting an opponent do-what-they-want is almost always a bad idea.

  • Containment Breach is going to be a dead-card in a lot of games (i.e. versus every opponent that doesn't have artifacts or enchantments in play, which will be a lot).

Thanks for the link Sorin_Markov_1947!!

Taking a look at it and seems that removal is the way to go to help against mono-green.

Infernal Grasp, Bloodchief's Thirst and Necrotic Fumes will be effective against all the big creatures in the deck. The addition of Containment Breach as per your recommendation should help against Ranger Class and more importantly Unnatural Growth. Outland Liberator  Flip would also be good for artifact / enchantment removal and is a werewolf too. I added a few deathtouch cards to the maybe board that could also be effective and work as “removal”: Infuse with Vitality and Bladebrand.

Re: Mono-white - Crippling Fear in the sideboard may come in handy to wipe out those pesky wennies.

How does this deck beat mono-green? Also, if you have Eyetwitch, you need lessons in your sideboard. Pest Summoning, Basic Conjuration, Containment Breach, and Necrotic Fumes are all decent

Seems you have a good base going for your deck idea so far. There are a couple cards I would suggest adding to the deck idea, and trimming others due to more efficient plays.

First I would advise going for a full set of Prosperous Innkeeper as this card is way to good for your deck type to run less then 4. The ETB (enter batltle field) trigger to gain life for all your cretures entering the battle field is huge for Trelasarra, Moon Dancer as it can spin her out of control quickly. The addition of the treasure token to give you a turn of ramp can also be very valuable.

I would also suggest adding extra copies of Righteous Valkyrie to the deck as most of your creatures are clerics, giving you extra life for them entering the battlefield while it is on the board. The anthem effect it brings for being at 27 or more life is also very strong and hard for decks that do not have a straight kill spell to remove the angel handle the card a lot of the time.

For some good lifegain cantrips to consider, I would suggest Cram Session and Revitalize . These spells will give you some life and allow you to get another card to potentially play. With cram session you can use some potentially good removals spells like Containment Breach and Reduce to Memory in the side or get Environmental Sciences for some more life and fetch a land if you are a bit stalled on lands. There are other card options to consider as well, but those are some quick examples.

A cheap rare that is good to consider for the deck Yasharn, Implacable Earth . This card is a good size body that will and some lands to your hand and also prevent players from activating sacrifice mechanics and life paying functions. This is particularly useful with a lot of decks trying to make use of treasures as they will not be able to activate them while it is on the board (small note, your treasures also won't work). If you do not think its good enough for the main board, would definitely use in the side for best of 3 matches.

I would suggest Hallowed Priest for arena, but it sadly does not have a paper version of it printed. Due to this I would suggest moving your Trelasarra, Moon Dancer to a 4 of as this card is one of your strongest creatures with this kind of deck and is likely to die to opponents removal spells at least once as it is a high priority target for their removal a lot of the times. I would also increase the Cleric Class to a 4 of for paper format if not just a 3 of at least for general play.

Cards I would trim from your deck would be Turntimber Ascetic , Tajuru Paragon , Conclave Mentor , and Life Goes On .

You are running some cards I haven't test yet like Druid Class , so I am not so sure how that works out and would be interested to hear your thoughts if you think it has been working out for you. If you are interested in seeing my take on this deck that I have been playing in the arena's 2022 format you can see it here

Hope these comments help.

Hello Minousmancer,

Thanks for the suggestions. The deck list a was a quick idea I was testing based on cards I had on Arena and was meant to try and allow people to try and use cards that would be easy to acquire.

The reason for choosing Crawling Barrens over Faceless Haven was to make it so I could have a land that could build to be a larger threat that most control decks that really on Heartless Act would not be able to remove. Faceless Haven feels strong for decks that are trying to be as aggressive as possible, while this deck really tries to sit back and build up for combo. Another nice thing about the Barrens is that you can sacrifice it to a Tend the Pests if the opponent tries to direct remove it and gain a board (speaking from experience). The deck also only uses, 2 of these lands in the deck as we do not really want to draw it early or in every game as a lot of the decks costs do not really make it the best land to have in play. All in all, the deck would be fine cutting the man land in general as it was only added to help fight against control decks.

I did forget to update the deck list from what is is currently using for a side deck. The Fractal Summoning and 1 copy of Environmental Sciences was removed for Containment Breach and Necrotic Fumes .

As for why the deck is not using Sedgemoor Witch is this was to be a budget deck. I was trying to find areas to trim around to keep the costs lower and lower the number of rare cards needing to be used on the deck as it was meant to be budget friendly (1 copy of Professor Onyx permitted for flavor). To include Sedgemoor Witch the deck idea also would probably change to not rely on Tend the Pests + Daemogoth Woe-Eater combo to be making tokens and would be using more cards like Hunt for Specimens and similar spells to generate tokens to combo.

PS: Plumb the Forbidden was in the deck already and was written into the deck description on how to make use of it. The reason the deck was called "Storm" was because of this spell.

A solid card option I think you may want a couple copies of in your deck would be Charge Through . This card will give you a combat trick that can give trample to your creature for a surprise lethal hit with your Dragonsguard Elite or just serve as a cheap cantrip spell to trigger your cards in play. The spell also doubles as a learn card allowing you to discard draw or grab a lesson card from your side deck. You can take advantage of this to add cards like Containment Breach , Expanded Anatomy , Introduction to Annihilation , or even Mascot Exhibition to give you some card options that may help you pending on board state situation.

Some other options you may want to consider for your deck are Lovestruck Beast and Brazen Borrower . The option to use them for the adventure can be useful for trigger the magecraft skills. Both have a different purpose to be useful as Lovestruck Beast if you lose the 1/1 it makes a good wall and strong fighter target for Blizzard Brawl ; Brazen Borrower serves as a useful disruption spell that can be a decent flying aggressor.

Out of the cards you are running, Quandrix Apprentice seems like your weakest link as most of your spells are reactive defense spells. This means you are not likely just throwing your spells out to help you draw the lands with their skill.

Hope these suggestions help.
