Post-Rotation Budget Options

Standard forum

I'm looking to start playing Standard on MTGO on a tight budget (20 tix or so). What do you think will be some of the best budget Standard decks come rotation?

I follow the MTGGoldfish Budget Magic series and have been looking at Thermo-Alchemist builds which seem like a strong option, though the Bloodbriar deck also looked like a lot of fun. I'm looking for wins > fun though.

What do you think?

Ive seen the bloodbriar build and i myself play it but with other cards thrown in. Its okay. My build is a bit more well in paper not sure how much it would be on mtgo. Things u can add to make it a bot better is selfless spirit, gearhulk cataclismic, westvail abby, are some good upgrades. As for the thermo build i havnt seen that one but all thermo builds are mostly budget and u can make them better for not to much more. Sorry if this is hard to read i typed this on a phone this site sucks for phones!

ducttapedeckbox,
In testing, I've been amazed at how well Lifegain can play. Shamelessly, my deck is at Screw it, I'm playing Orzhov (KLD); as I type this, T/O shows it at 12.9 TIX.

Thanks for the suggestions Shapoopy and clayperce.

I think the Bloodbriar deck is more cool than good on an extreme budget. I was reading SaffronOlive's concluding thoughts and he said that it didn't feel great- he could have gone 0-5 or 5-0 and not have been surprised.

Your lifegain deck looks like it could be a lot of fun, but the strategy doesn't appeal to me that much.

I've been looking at creature-based RDW decks with Smuggler's Copter and have been surprised by their apparent level. I'm leaning towards something like that.

ducttapedeckbox,
Makes sense. I recommend checking out Argeaux's latest: Speedway Fanatics [KLD]. Drop the Chandras and it may fit your needs nicely.

You may also want to ask for inputs over on snarlmkiv's thread, All Things Red Deck.

Good luck (and good skill!) brewing!

ducttapedeckbox,
Depending on how many Artifacts you end up with, splashing may be worthwhile, if only for Unlicensed Disintegration.

I completely forgot about that card, thank you clayperce! I'm going to go mess around with a deck and see what I come up with.

ducttapedeckbox,
No worries. You might also want to check out Wabbbit's deck: Seeing Red (Kaladesh Testing).

I also really like the Unlicensed Disintegration splash. Hmm, and I thought I'd solved the budget RDW puzzle. I'll have to see how smoothly it runs without investing in duals which I'm not going to do. The closest I'm coming to that is Aether Hub.

@clayperce: Thanks for the publicity! :)

Wabbbit,
Absolutely!

Aether Hub makes me want to splash too, for Natural State in the sideboard. Because Authority of the Consuls is really brutal. Hmmm...

Crumbling Vestige may have a role in that kind of strategy too...
