First Time Trying Pauper

I'm thinking of making either a White, Black, White/Black, or Black/Red pauper deck.
White seems very versatile. Black is nice because of discard. White/Black would be a good combination of the 2. Black/Red would be cool because of Terminate, and Lightning Bolt.
Can anybody enlighten me as to which route is the best to take/the basics of pauper?
ChrisH I want to stay within 2 colors at most if possible. I looked at the sample list your provided and it was definitely really interesting, and pretty good.
But I feel like for my first deck, I want to stay within 2 colors.

First of all, welcome to Pauper!I think the best option here is WB.Mono white is very linear, and you might get bored of the deck early if you don't find it challenging. BR is very aggressive, everything is focused on dealing damage to your opponent, even if you receive the same damage. I think it can be difficult to handle if you are not familiar with the pauper meta.The best combination of offense and defense is WB. You have excellent removal, can choose between lots of tiny creatures or powerful ones and combine autodamage with lifegain. You will have fun with it.

Every possible color combination out of those is a viable way to go. Pauper has about a dozen tier 1 decks.
It is not really about what the colors do per se, but what archetype you want to be in:
Mono W - aggro is your only option, but Mono W Aggro is one of the tier 1 decks in pauper, playing such beasts as Guardian of the Guildpact.
B/W - not very many options here, the only viable way to do this color combination is WB Edge of the Divinity and Nightsky Mimic-based deck.
Black - mono black has 2 main ways to go - Zombie tribal with the likes of Gempalm Polluter and Shepherd of Rot; or Mono Black control with Crypt Rats, Liliana's Specter and finishing opponents off with Gray Merchant of Asphodel
Black/Red - no notable deck examples.

How about Kuldotha Mardu?
Seems like the type of deck that you are thinking of. It has everything you are looking for. While it is not a top tier deck (Kuldotha Jeskai could possibly be top tier) it will have success if you play it well: Pauper is relatively unexplored and lots of brews show up all the time.
Playing online is where the biggest Pauper community is but my store runs paper Pauper and it is tied with modern for my favorite format.
