So ive been deckbuilding a bit for modern and while im kot ready to share my creation yet, id like some of your opinions on which of these cards is the best/worst in affinity and why?(im cutting one of them you see)

Cranial Plating

card:acrbound ravager

Steel Overseer

Any opinions are greatly appreciated!

I can't see why you would cut any of them, maybe if you explain we can help better>

Unless you’re trying to take the deck in a multi-color direction, all three are a 4-of main deck option. The more colors involved, the weaker cranial plating becomes, but reinventing the wheel on affinity probably isn’t a smart move from a competitive standpoint.

It depends what version of affinity you're referring to - the traditional one or the hardened scales variant.

For traditional affinity, you probably need all of these to stay competitive. But I can imagine, because this style of deck is looking for some kind of nonsense T2/T3 win, Steel Overseer is probably the least valuable. The deck doesn't at all, i'd imagine, without at least fielding the other 2.

For Hardened Scales, they don't run Cranial Plating at all. So obviously you ditch that card. You can't play the deck without the other 2 cards mentioned though, and there's not a whole lot of point trying to rank them between which is better (though lets be honest, the answer is that Ravager is always the best card)

Ur right guys, i shoild elaborate more. Im making some variant with Experimental Frenzy and some white for Tempered Steel. Mostly kn an affinity shell tho.

But my real question is just which of the 3 do people feel like is the least impactful in traditional affinity itself

Steel Overseer. It's good when the opponent doesn't interact, but it's really soft to timely Fatal Push and Terminus, among other things.

Yhea, cut the overseer then, the Tempered Steel will take it's place, can't wait to see the deck!

Based on the cards you’ve mentioned using, you’re probably playing a slower game so’ll want to keep Overseer and ditch Plating.

wallisface agreed. Cards that high mana cost in an aggro deck like affinity probably want Overseer instead of the other cards. Good luck Vman making a 4 CMC enchantment work in an aggro deck. Its gonna be tough without a major shell change to make an aggro deck support that kind of card

Everyone shitting on OP. LoL. Yes, tinkering a bunch with an established Modern deck will likely drop it down a peg or two, but there's no harm in going for something funky.

To answer OP's question, it's really hard to say. Those three cards are all good. However, they're not just good. They're good in specific circumstances. If you end up taking the deck in some new direction, one of those cards will become worse. I'm inclined to say plating is the worst of those cards because you're obviously going for a greedier deck than traditional affinity. This means plating will be less potent. It's also not a dude, so it doesn't benefit from Tempered Steel and the mana requirements are annoying.

Ravager is an insanely skill intensive card. It's going to be difficult to play it properly and you've also got Tempered steel math to consider while playing your deck. Sacing stuff might be a little off gameplan.

Overseer is maybe the weakest of the bunch in traditional affinity. It's a must-answer card, but often ends up just eating removal. If you're successfully going wide, he doesn't really mean much if you have Tempered Steel out either.

Arvail Nobody is 'shitting' on the OP. We cannot assume what level of skill or experience someone has in MTG especially in a format like modern, and sometimes it's important to let people know if they are trying to do something difficult before they spend their money on cards that can end up being unfeasible. Setting expectations for trying meme stuff can be important for new players IMO. I think for the most part people were generally supportive while trying to set an expectation for the possible performance of the card.

I totally agree that memeing is totally fine and I do it alot myself, but I've seen brand new players or even some experienced players thinking bad and slow cards are good when they're not good in modern so it's fine to politely warn someone of that when theyre trying to build a deck around certain cards

avrail its alright dude :) messing with an established deck is bound to get some negativity. But i always like to remind myself that its people who create the new meta are the ones who end up on top.

Looking at hardened scales affinity which started out as a meme too but is now the version that keeps posting gokd results. Im here trying something out myself :)

RedmundR2 i appreciate the concern :) i am a veteran player actually, its just that my experience with affinity itselr has been somewhat lackluster so i come here for some opinions.

So far the general consensus here and around my lgs is that Steel Overseer might be the card to cut, as its the slowest of the 3, mostly ends up being a lightning rod and also would do the least with t.steel
