Budget Dredge: Should I add it?

Legacy Deck Help forum

Alright, so I'm attempting to build a budget legacy Dredge (As modern dredge is damn near impossible) and thought that this guy would be a perfect fit in the deck: Magus of the Bazaar

I would also like to find some budget alternatives for Cabal Therapy if possible.

Thanks!

ok so if we're being completely honest, there is no absolute alternative for cabal therapy because of the unique role it provides.

Honestly, Magus of the Bazaar is not good. It is a creature, that costs mana(which is really bad for Dredge), and will most likely get dredged in the first place. So no, it is not a perfect fit. Second, Cabal Therapy is really needed, whether you like it or not. And there are no budget alternatives. I do have a more budget version of dredge here- Dumping another body in the Grave that you can check out. That is a version without Lion's Eye Diamond, which is a big part of the cost. Also, you can run Flame-Kin Zealot and Dread Return for a win. The reason for the Cabal Therapy is to clear the way through counter magic(such as Force of Will, the go-to counterspell of Legacy) and it can create zombies with Bridge from Below by sacing the Narcomoeba.

LONG STORY SHORT- Magus of the Bazaar is bad, and there are no alternatives, you need Cabal Therapy.

I agree with GabeCubed, there really isn't a replacement for Cabal Therapy, however you can easily play a dredge deck that uses no diamonds. When the deck started it didn't always play them you could look up the decks that use the Ichorid variant and probably play a budget version of it. Most of the dredge staples are pretty cheap, and the only real non budget card that shouldn't be replaced is the therapy. You could try the Undercity Informer version and see if that is to your liking. The only issue I see with Magus of the Bazaar is he is kind of slow for the deck, but you could Dread Return him, so the fact thaty he gets dredged isn't that big of a deal, but you could try him, and if it is a budget version I suppose you expect that it might not be as fast.

Thanks for the feedback, guys! Legacy isn't insanely big in my local meta (or in Britain at all, for that matter) so i'll give him a try casually.

One other thing I'll add on is that Dredge isn't really a "dredge" deck...it's an aggro-combo deck built around Bridge from Below. Your explosive wins will come from armies of zombie tokens. Cabal Therapy gives you lots of value because it helps with token production, especially when you sacrifice Ichorid or Bloodghast.

The absolute, must-have-4-ofs are Cabal Therapy and Bridge from Below for this reason. Almost everything else is pretty flexible in regards to budget.
