Silumgar's Command is #3 best command

I'm just going to leave this here... and I know these articles for players of all skill levels, but I just don't agree with literally ANY of Richard's choices, and I don't think anyone else does either.

Tbh I would rank either Atarka's Command or Incendiary Command as number one. As a primarily EDH player, that extra land drop has sometimes pushed me ahead of the pack to the point where I won the game on the next turn. Also, a player's hand is their arsenal, and when you get to say "fuck you" to their arsenal, it's the hugest thing possible.

I would say Atarka's Command is the best, as canterlotguardian said great for land drop in EDH, but it is also playable in a RG burn deck in modern, so playability in multiple formats makes it better.

I think Cryptic Command being about $60 shows that is the best. Though like the article says, if you are not running the colors then the one that fits is the best.

Problem is, different formats mean that different commands become more effective. In EDH, Austere Command is the best, bar none. In a 60 card deck however, it's unplayable. Trying to make a list out of all these commands isn't really possible, in my opinion.

slovakattack You could but you would need a list for each format :P

slovakattack I agree. Austere or Primal command in EDH are amazing. In standard, it is definitely Ojutai. In modern, it's Cryptic, and Atarka's is up there in a burn list. In legacy, none see any play.

Nyahur, Nyahur. You know what I mean, VA.

When it comes to Modern/60 card constructed, the top 3 imo are:

  1. Cryptic Command
  2. Atarka's Command
  3. Dromoka's Command

  1. Def Kolaghans Command. I don't like it personally but I can't deny its uses

How is Cryptic command second. Just how.

Top 3:

  1. Cryptic Command
  2. Austere Command
  3. Ojutai's Command

Yes, Cryptic and Austere are tied for 1st. Which one is truly first place depends on the format.

Just my take on it, though...

Sneaky preview...changed Austere's number from 1 to 2. That 2 is definitely a 1.

Something to be aware of though is that Cryptic has lost a lot of favor due to the decks it normally slides right into (read : Control) have lost a lot of favor in the formats it's most usable in (modern/EDH)

April 14, 2015 1:14 p.m.

True, but I still believe that it's the most powerful. You get to counter anything and still either get a card, bounce anything, or get rid of blockers/attackers. To me that's about as powerful a four-mana instant can get.

Comparing any command's power level to Cryptic is like trying to compare any planeswalkers power level to Mind Sculptor.

FAMOUSWATERMELON Mana cost I think is the only complaint. if it were like 2UU i'm sure it would

A) break the game :P

B) always be number 1

but 1UUU is just not possible for a lot of decks to achieve in a timely manor and the article itself even mentions that as the only reason it gets number 2. Being able to reliably cast things is an important factor.

April 14, 2015 1:37 p.m.

Of course VA. But when you do cast it, you get very far ahead. And let's be honest, three blue mana is not hard in the decks that it sees play in, notably control-ish decks.

VampireArmy says... #19

Yeah totally but those decks have sorta been pushed aside for now hence my original statement

On it's own though without that factor, it probably should have the number one slot objectively.

April 14, 2015 1:44 p.m.

Well, I wouldn't exactly agree with that, since it sees play in Twin, which is the top deck right now, and Scapeshift, equally doing good.

The biggest thing to remember about this is that this is one man's opinion about what the best commands are. Silumgar's Command is very good, but I don't necessarily agree with Mr. Richards' list.

in a meta full of infect and affinity, kologhans command is incredibly useful
