Need suggestions for interesting cards (ChiefBell keep out - birthday spoilers)

Hi everyone!
I'm ChiefBell's gf and I am looking to buy him a really cool magic card for his birthday - ideally it will be something interesting and rare that will hold/increase in value.
I have already looked at a few collections, like the comic con sets and the christmas cards, but I figured as a lot of you know a lot about magic you might be able to suggest something really special. Previously I was just getting him stuff for his Abzan deck but we have unfortunately reached Liliana saturation, so I am in need of new ideas...
My back up plan is to go for an expedition, but I would really appreciate any other suggestions. Budget is around $50 - higher if there's something really great.

Modern - he has paper Abzan but would like to build his Emeria control deck and, to a lesser extent, the Knightfall deck.

took a look at his page and found this commander deck he seems to be working on. since most of the cards are fairly cheap you could buy all of them in foil, If he likes foiling out decks

If he doesn't have all of his Damnations then one of those would probably be cool. If he does have them but only has the regular ones may I suggest the full art promo Damnation.
I know it is a sideboard card but most players (even those who, like myself, don't like foils) like textless full art.

You could reach out to an artist like steve argyle and see if you can get his lilianas signed.

FNM Path to Exiles, Duels of the Planeswalker Scavenging Oozes, or maybe just lands for Emeria Control like Flooded Strands, or Hallowed Fountains, or maybe a Mystic Gate or two.

My suggestion is to just continue picking up pieces for whatever deck he is wanting finished right now...if he doesn't have everything for his Modern Abzan, then I'd go for whatever he is missing from there first, as that's his pride and joy...after that, his Emeria deck is pretty simple to build, and knightfall has some cards that are a bit more expensive as well...so it's really just up to your judgement on what he wants more. IF he has everything for his paper Abzan, I'd highly suggest starting to foil foreign his entire deck, you could start with all of his basic lands and get some really cool and rare lands! There is a German forest that is a misprint and has a Plains art on it, and then there is the matching actual Plains..could be cool for an abzan deck, though they don't come in foil as far as I know...after that there are the APAC lands (also not foil) and the MPS promos, which are foil and super sexy...they come in each of the guilds, so you could get him all the Golgari, Orzhov, and Selesnya Conclave lands! Hope this helps!

Are you set on a card? You could look into gear, a deck box for example, if he doesn't have one he really loves. There are some really cool handmade wooden ones that you could probably get personalized with the Abzan / Golgari symbols or something.
Getting one of his favorite cards altered would be really neat too. There are a few artists here on T/O. You could even see if you could get the art a little personalized.

Keep in mind that Chief lives in not america, so getting a hold of these american artists seems like a much less likely route.
I like getting a promo Damnation, but that seems slightly out of budget.
Maybe have a local artist alter his Abrupt Decays, or his lands from Abzan? I know I would appreciate that, but he may not for lack of resale value. I would say pick up an expedition Twilight Mire or something else along those lines if the art isn't a thing that should happen.

hmmm that's a tough one. He is the man that owns all the good mtg related stuff. maybe an expedition land? something Black Green of course. Unsure on the prices across the pond but you can get Twilight Mire at about $50 here.

ducttapedeckbox I was going to mention having a favorite card of his altered, but she said her budget was around $50, AND chief primarily plays Modern, so alters are harder to use...I COULD do an alter for him as judge friendly as possible if that's something maybe he might be interested in, just contact me on my FB page here:

Yeah he has too much good stuff and we're (unsurprisingly) not able to foil out a goyf deck, so I'm kind of stuck on the Abzan front...
Thank you Skooma - your cards look great! He was saying the other day how judges can be kind of... uhh... strict about alters, so that sounds really cool.
