Any good way to play King Macar?

Has anyone had success playing King Macar, the Gold-Cursed? I really like the idea of the card but I'm not too sure what type of deck to play it in. People say it's too slow, while they're right it is slow you still have a 2/3 that removes any creature plus adds any color mana you want. Seems awesome to me.

My friend splashed black on his Jeskai Ascendancy combo deck. The game was clunky, but when he managed to have all the pieces for his combo, it was pretty entertaining to watch.

Yes, he is a fun card. The thing is, that he comes into play turn 4.... And, you need to tap him and get him untapped before he becomes useful. Play turn 4, attack turn 5, untap turn 6.... That is not a fast deck. Of course you want Sylvan Caryatid. And you need something that taps him. Maybe you could play him as a finisher in a deck. With lots of inspired cards.

But yes, it is too slow. You don't want to remove a creature that slow... :D

Well, if you actually sit down and make a commander deck around this guy, he's actually quite fun. At 4 mana, he's quite affordable. He also offers valuable exile in black and provides you with mana or artifacts to sac for value. He's particularly good at keeping low-creature count decks from having any board state early on. You can use a bunch of lands or artifacts to make sure that he untaps properly. Not only that, you can go for hilarious stuff like Mycosynth Lattice+Unwinding Clock and start tapping and untapping multiple times each turn.

Is it competitive? Not at all. It's still a fun deck with quite a lot of potential.

WOTC just loves teasing me... if I'm understanding correctly it'd work great with Splinter Twin and Pestermite but 3 colors, turn 4-6, it would be fun but I can't see the King really doing massive amounts of damage/mana production. It's still a cool card nonetheless.

Another I've been tinkering with alot is Purphoros, God of the Forge. I'm actually surprised it hasn't been utilized more in a token deck, 6 points every time Hordeling Outburst is cast and a possible 12-18 if you combo that Outburst with a Howl of the Horde. Goblin Rabblemaster and Krenko, Mob Boss would go well with Purphoros too.

Yeah, but all around I'd say Macar is a bad card, the CMC is too high for an inspired card... I'd like to see a low CMC like 2 or at least get into play tapped.
