Best Deck For Sen Triplets?

Commander (EDH) forum

Currently, I'm running a Sen Triplets good stuff deck that I've been building on since Shards of Alara. It was originally 60 card standard then, modern, then in 2011, I switched it over to commander.

However, I've been going through a midlife crisis with the deck. Sleeve it, play a game, tear it apart to play some new deck, just to resleeve it a few days later. I've repeated this for weeks...I think I need a change.

I was considering three diferent decks. An artifact based deck using mainly artifacts with Sharuum the Hegemon combo as an emergency button.

Then there's goodstuff combo with mike/trike, blood/bond, DED/palinchron etc etc.

And last, I have a more control oriented deck, heavily relying on Sen Triplets, counterspells, etc with a very midrange feel. This deck would also have the Sharuum combo in it.

So what would be the best route? I'm losing my mind over this deck and my sleeves don't appreciate it.

Definitely control. If you want goodstuff combo, there are plenty of better commanders. If you want artifact, use Sharuum. Don't try and fit a square peg in a round hole. Embrace the skills of your commander which in this instance would be control.

Ultimately, it comes down to what you prefer your playstyle to be. For me when it comes go EDH I personally prefer the combo control route, as such all my decks are tailored to this.

I would recommend finding out your preferred playstyle and go from there. The other thing is that you might need fo build a second deck. It really helps having a bit of variance. Obviously if you've designed the deck, it will mat h your style of play, but it allows you to have some variance without having to rebuild your deck. I would highly suggest not building the second deck as esper though.

I always jump between Kaalia aggro, Meren value, Jarad combo, Tasigur reanimate, Sharuum combo, Zurgo voltron and Nekusar control. This deck just always ends up in one of my deck boxes and I want to keep it as a mainstay for when I need to feed my Sen Triplets craving.

I was definitely considering control combo. Should it be control with more artifact themed creatures? Or should the only artifacts be my ramp? Shatterstorm and Shattering Spree scare me.

you should go with esper combos with Sen as a control element, that's a build that can work well against many decks :)

I'll try and figure out a good balance. I tend to flub up control decks for some reason and usually end up bricking. I want to try it out though so I'll work on a list and post it

There's no harm in using artifacts to combo out. Most of the time you'll assemble your combo in one turn so mass artifact removal won't be an issue (usually). But that's also why you run countermagic.

Bit again, it comes down to the colours you're running. In esper, your deck will most likely be artifact heavy, however if you were playing BUG, then you'd probably be using creature based combo and Tooth and Nail or similar since you have access to green. There's also Buried Alive + Victimize for setting up combo. But again, you can easily run artifact combos too.

Just know that Sen Triplets will get hated on, so make sure the deck can run without her. I'm sure you've seen this many times since 2011 lol

Combos as backup wincons are always a good choice. It's widely accepted to have an "out" when a game takes multiple hours

Also there are always (goodstuff) staples or pet cards you have in every color. Nothing wrong with cramming them in there. No two edh decks are the same

I ran her with an insane ramp package; planning on casting sen trip for 11+ mana if need be. Youll always be happy with extra mana. As long as you can cast sen trip, you have a hand. Everybody's hand.

There are a fucking ton of Counterspells and boardwipes in esper. I ran 6-8 of each at any given time. If I can't have it you can't either. Remand is $$! The problem is that if I won my friends would all hate me, and not let me do that a second time.

Oddly enough, no one has ever cared if I had Sen Triplets in play. It was always everything else that got dealt with. But, times have changed. With the recent rule change, she is a target. My goodstuff deck no longer works and is boring. Hence the need for a change. I'm currently working on a list. I have 7 counterspells, 3 wipes and a few target exiles/destroys. Any specific cards anyone would include?

I appreciate all of you helping me with my oldest and most loved deck

Do you have a link to the deck? that's generally the easiest way to recommend cards.

I don't have a list up for the new deck, but it will be a more control and combo oriented version of my Counterless Control. And will obviously have counterspells in the new version.

If you want combo control, I HEAVILY recommend sharuum. There are a lot of options for both playstyles in the realm of artifacts, and having Sharuum as a commander means the deck plays phenomenally at either end, and still plays reasonably well just about anywhere in-between. With the addition of the new gear-hulks, Sharuum also got a good deal stronger, especially if you want to go heavier on control than combo.

I do have Sharuum and was going to include it in my list. I've run sharuum before but switched it back to sen. I could try Sharuum again and just include sen triplets and see if I like sharuum any more now than I did a few years ago.

I've seen Sen Triplets run as a deck that uses your opponents stuff, so each game is different. For that kind of build, Control is the direction you typically want to go.

If you decided to go Combo, Sen Triplets will be able to lock one Control player out at the beginning of your turn. You can use your Commander to help get your Combo off just by targeting whoever is most likely to disrupt it. You can also use the cards in their hand to protect your combo. Nothing like using an opponents Force of Will!!
