Mishra lives again!! —April 9, 2019

Decided to revisit the list. Not much has changed and the core has pretty much stayed the same with a couple of support cards added in from more recent sets. I kinda expected more of a shake up after three years but hey, whatcha gonna do

When I first saw this I thought "This guy's a damn fool", but I now realize I was so very wrong

Sorry for being a noob but how does this work? I don't really understand how the ability works I guess.

When Mishra is out, every time you cast a artifact, before it resolves, Mishra's ability will trigger, going on the stack. If the spell is countered, the counter will resolve first, putting the spell in the graveyard, at which point Mishra resolves, searching the graveyard for that artifact and putting it into play. For any of the other listed cards, switch out the counterspell with that card, then resolve the chain backwards, keeping in mind where the cast artifact is during each step

I still can't get over how cool this is. I kind of want to do something similar just to amuse and/or exasperate the hell out of my meta, which has more control decks than most.

It's just kind of funny, because this synergy has been here for the entire time that Mishra has been printed, and yet nobody seemed to realize that until now

I think it's because some people don't play in EDH metas that have a lot of control. I do, so this is immensely appealing because it just goes "fuck your counterspells!" Also, combos. Delicious, delicious combos.

In my case it's because I barely new Mishra was a thing. Because again, nobody talks about him.

People tend to not look deeply at a card unless it passes the "first impression check". Here, Mishra's first impression is that its a steaming pile of turd on a stick, so people dont look for the less obvious synergy

Wait... Can't people still counter Mishra's artifacts by just waiting for his ability to resolve and then countering the spell?

They can, and most high-level players will, but thats why we have cards like Nether Void or Blood Funnel to take advantage of the effect. Really the "opponents countering" thing is a bonus against opponents that dont totally understand how stacks work

poorpinkus says... #14

Oh, ok, yeah that was confusing me, I understand the synergy with cards that counter everybody's spells, I was just confused about that

Ral Zarek or Dack Fayden would be great cards here.

July 19, 2015 7:48 a.m.

Arcane Denial seems like it would be great here. It basically does everything you want it to. Countering one of your own artifacts draws you 3 cards (with no downside thanks to Mishra), or you can counter an opponent's spell. Either way, it seems pretty powerful.

Any suggestions on what to take out? I had to cut 11 cards while deckbuilding and it got hard as hell to cut down to 100 cards
