TOOTH AND NAIL —Jan. 14, 2019

i got to play test this deck again this weekend and... i almost got the It That Betrays and Keldon Firebombers combo off. however, i did not. i cast my tooth and nail and someone used that new copy target instant or sorcery for however many times you have cast your commander... something i would never play from the pre con. i did still manage to squeak by with a win by not being the biggest target throughout that game and just having better cards in my deck. it also helped that on of the players got upset and focused on the other player that always helps too.

Thanks for the upvote and comment on my deck!

I would like to address your question of how many basic lands to use. To start I would recommend having at least as many basic lands as there are ways in the deck to fetch them. If your land grabbing effects specify basics then you'll need to have enough for them, but if there are a lot of effects that can get non-basics then you could afford a lower amount of basics.

Ultimately the best way to know how many basics to use is to observe how many you pull out in each of a number of games. Note whether you find yourself running out of basics to fetch or if you have plenty remaining. That is where you can aim to balance the numbers.

thats pretty much what i had to do. i figured bumping my deck to 44 lands with some basics helped a lot, but now im not sure having Borborygmos Enraged is worth having in the deck unless im willing to add a few more lands.

You you're probably ok with the number of lands as far as Borborygmos is concerned. He is a big threat which will draw out removal from your opponents so I wouldn't count on getting more than one or two combat hits in. I view him primarily as a way to throw your lands around and a combo piece instead of a way to grab more lands.

I see you have The Gitrog Monster and Dakmor Salvage which combo with Borby. I added an eldrazi titan to my deck to recycle the graveyard and allow the combo to go truly infinite.

That would definitely be a good way to try out the effect before investing in the more expensive cards.

Crop Rotation is a good fit in every Windgrace deck. Instant speed grave hate via Bojuka Bog, sneak in Glacial Chasm for a perma-fog, Strip Mine to eat a powerful land... you get the idea.

If you want to maximize the landfall triggers start replacing non basic lands without basic land types with off colour fetches like Windswept Heath. It makes scapeshift super dumb when you can eat all your lands, replace them all with fetches, and then crack them all for basics and duals untapped.

crop rotation was in here but i took it out, same with life from the loam. ive only play tested this deck once, but strip mine and waste lands would go in this deck for sure. as for fetches they are a money sink to put all the fetches i could in the deck right now, probably later tho i will.
