Goblins...Goblins...GOBLINS

Modern Aggro Goblins RGW (Naya)

TheFlameReaper

Goblins are my favourite creature type. If I could own a pet Goblin, I would call him Bob. Seriously.

A casual Goblin deck built under modern restrictions. Normally, Goblin decks are about 100s of small li'l Goblins but me, I prefer 4 or 5 normal sized Goblins, their meals consisting of a tad bit of spinach... And chocolate, yes don't forget the chocolate, they go hyper when you give them a Cadbury bar. This deck is an aggro deck but it can still last mid game and even till late game. Heck, getting later in the game means that the goblins get bigger every turn due to the bonuses being thrown around.

Help is appreciated! :)

And yes, I name my Goblins, they deserve respect!

Deck Breakdown:

Creatures

1 Drops

4 Goblin Guide (Jacob) - Best 1 CMC aggro red card in whole of Modern, and it's a Goblin! 2/2 Haste and the drawback which is more of an advantage is just sweet.

4 Legion Loyalist (Gavin) - 1/1 Haste and the Battalion is just perfect for late game. My friends play tons of tokens and Gavin here will help stop any blockers. Plus, many of my goblins get pumped with +1/+0 effects, hence with Gavin, the low 1 or 2 life the Goblins have don't matter as First Strike keeps them safe. Oh and don't forget the Trample that comes with him, chump blockers ain't no problem anymore!

4 Goblin Cohort (Benjamin) - Hey, don't underestimate this guy! 2/2 for 1 is amazing, it's not a Jacob but it's still a great 1 drop! The drawback is also not much of a problem, seeing more than half the deck is filled with creatures.

2 Drops

4 Warren Instigator (Sam) - Essentially Wizards just stapled two Goblin Lackeys together to make Dave. Although many of my Goblins are cheap, I wouldn't mine 2 Goblins entering the battlefield for free. With all the +1/+0 and +1/+1 effects being thrown around, Doublestrike on Dave is going to make him become a beast!

4 Goblin Wardriver (John) - 2/2 for 2 plus pumping your goblins +1/+0 every time he attacks is pretty amazing. Nuff' said.

3 Drops

4 Goblin Chieftain (Harry) - Once you drop this guy into play, you can sit back and relax. Pumping each creature in your deck with +1/+1 and granting them haste, your li'l Goblins have just become scary monsters!

4 Hearthfire Hobgoblin (Jack) - 2/2 Doublestriker for 3 CMC, is there anything more you need? Plus he won't be hitting only 4 damage for long! The +1/+0 and +1/+1 effects are everywhere, and he'll be defeating the opponent in no time!

4 Drops

4 Boartusk Liege (Wayne) - Woah! Hold it there Mr "knows everything about cost efficiency" man! Yes, besides Wayne, no one else is Green. I know. So what? He is essentially a bigger, meaner Goblin Chieftain. Sure, he doesn't grant your Goblins Haste but they still get that delicious +1/+1 bonus! AND he's a 3/4 Trampler for 4. Don't know bout you but I like it! Could prove to be a neat blocker and solves those chump blocker problems! Wayne is cool, don't pick on him! (I have yet to get 2 of them out on the battlefield, and when that happens, man are you going to win big!)

Other spells

1 Drops

4 Lightning Bolt - If you don't have a playset of these in a red deck, you're playing red wrongly.

4 Brute Force - A fantastic combat trick up your sleeves. A 3/3 centaur in the way, trying to block your li'l Gavin? No worries! Pull out Brute Force and you just took out a big threat! Lightning Bolt targeting your Harry? No problem! Just cast Brute Force on him and he's safe! Plus he deals more damage now! Need some extra damage to get through? We got the answer for that! Brute Force your Sam or Jack and they'll be doing 3x2 damage cos of their Doublestrike! The possibilities are endless!

Lands

2 Teetering Peaks - Wizards essentially stapled a Bull Rush onto a Mountain to produce this card. Great late game card when you run out of fuel. I imagine a Goblin jumping onto that large piece of rock and sliding down that steep slope, dealing 2 damage to the opponent when it smashes into his or her face... Oh how Goblins find the best playthings...

18 Mountain - Red deck? Yes. Mono Red? Yes. Goblins? Yes. Okay, I think Mountains are my best options here but maybe I should add Plains instead... Oh so many choices...

How to play

Step 1: Play Mountains

Step 2: Turn Mountain sideways

Step 3: Play li'l Goblins

Step 4: Play li'l Goblins that will pump up li'l Goblins into big Goblins

Step 5: Play combat tricks to get rid of blockers, big threats or get in some extra damage

Step 6: Turn big Goblin sideways

Step 7: Repeat Steps 1-6 until your opponent is covered with Goblins and surrender

Step 8: Give yourself a pat on the back for winning the game

Step 9: Give your Goblins some treats to reward them for their hardwork (This is optional but it is encouraged as they may try to eat you for not rewarding them)
