knowledge Pool with Instants?

Asked by frslash 13 years ago

So, I have a Knowledge PoolMTG Card: Knowledge Pool out, say I cast a Gut ShotMTG Card: Gut Shot on my opponents turn. if there is a Primeval TitanMTG Card: Primeval Titan in one of the exiled piles, can I cast it on their turn?

More specifically, I'm playing an instant on their turn, and I'm wondering if I can play something like a sorcery or something w/out flash.

Yes. Normally you could not (both due to it being a creature, and the fact something is resolving) but Knowledge pool's ability permits you.

You could not, however, cast something like Spinal Embrace if it is not during combat

Yeah, knowledge pool's ability gives you permission to cast any nonland card that knowledge pool has exiled. As long as there is not a restriction/can't-effect on it stopping you (e.g. Teferi, Mage of Zhalfir out on your opponent's side)

oh, though I should correct myself. It allows you to cast any -other- nonland card.

Also important to keep in mind you are casting 2 spells so if someone manages to resolve a curse of exhaustion on you you are hosed.

More specifically, any effect stopping you from playing more than one spell per turn will halt you from playing any spells while Knowledge PoolMTG Card: Knowledge Pool is on the field.

Teferi, Mage of ZhalfirMTG Card: Teferi, Mage of Zhalfir

Curse of ExhaustionMTG Card: Curse of Exhaustion

Rule of LawMTG Card: Rule of Law (Though this stops your opponent as well)

Ethersworn CanonistMTG Card: Ethersworn Canonist (This can be played around by casting artifact spells)

Knowledge PoolMTG Card: Knowledge Pool allows you to do some neat shenanigans with cards that care about casting spells. You can use it with Riku of Two ReflectionsMTG Card: Riku of Two Reflections (cast an instant and copy it, original goes into the Pool, then cast another instant/sorcery or creature off the Pool and copy that too), Animar, Soul of ElementsMTG Card: Animar, Soul of Elements (cast a creature, get a counter, then cast another off the Pool and get another counter), Eldrazi (Cast it, it goes into the pool but you still get its ability), Shrines (Shock goes into the pool, Shrine of Burning RageMTG Card: Shrine of Burning Rage gets a counter, then another red burn and another counter). You just need to know how to take advantage of it. The funnest Knowledge Pool play I can think of would be playing it and then in response dropping a 1 mana instant and casting the Emrakul, the Aeons TornMTG Card: Emrakul, the Aeons Torn it just exiled.
