Intruder alarm triggers and heritage druid

Asked by PhageTheUnbeatable 11 years ago

Is this a legal play?

In play are 2 Llanowar Elves , 2 Elvish Visionary , and Intruder Alarm . I cast Heritage Druid . Can I do this?:

The Intruder Alarm trigger goes on the stack. Then I tap the 2 Llanowar Elves for GG and the Heritage Druid and the Elvish Visionary s for GGG using the Druid's ability in response. The 5 green mana is added to my mana pool, then everything untaps and I can tap everything for mana again.

Does this work? It looks right, but I want to check.

Yes it works, I don't really see why it wouldn't. You can respond to the trigger by acticating mana abilities, and the mana will stay in your mana pool until the phase ends.

I actually don't know that this does work. Reason being is that Intruder Alarm s efdect of untapping all creatures is a triggered effect. ie a side effect of something that occurred during the course of play. Example to explain what I mean= Kaalia of the Vast attacks and you get to put an angel demon or dragon from ur hand into play (this too is a triggered ability). The question I was asked was can someone use Nevinyrral's Disk in response to kaalia's ability if the angel selected was Avacyn, Angel of Hope . The answer was no because triggered effects do not go on the stack. They just happen.

@ Bellock86 what????? Trriggered ability do use the stack.

You can indeed activate Nevinyrral's Disk in response to kaalia attack. Once attacker are declared, ability that trigger on attack (kaalia, zhur and others) are put on the stack. Then there is a round of priority.

The problem i see with your statement is that when you do get the priority, you don't know yet what your opponent will put on the battlefield.... the ability on the stack is "put and angel, demon or dragon from your hand into play......." It's not "put avacyn into play" ... Once your opponent put it on the battlefield, it's too late, his stuff in indestructible...

Hmmm. I see my mistake in that particular exlanation. So question then. state based effects do not use the stack if memory serves so let's say I have an Olivia Voldaren , High Priest of Penance , and Stromkirk Captain on the field. I ping the priest with olivia which triggers the high priests ability but also causes him(priest) to become a vamp. Would he die or become a vamp and then subsequently gets the pump from the captain and therefore live with apoint of damage to be pinged later in the game(forgetting him getting removed by my opponent of course)?

State based actions are checked and executed right before each time a player would get priority. After Olivia's ability is completely finished resolving the High Priest is a 2/2 with 1 damage marked on him, so there's no reason for him to be destroyed for lethal damage.
