Prelease Newb Questions
Limited forum

Hey folks, me again. My LGS is having the Origins prerelease on Saturday and I am going, for the first time, to this prerelease. I am a little sketchy on the 'How to' and what this whole 'Choose a color' mean. Does it mean your limited to a solid color? Is it anything like draft?
I just don't want to walk in completely blind and hold everyone up by being slow and asking a bunch of questions.

No, the choose a color thing is based on what your base color is for the prerelease and possible promos you might get based from that. There is an article from the mothership says that for this release they encourage 2 colors but the color you choose for your prerelease box will be your base color.
Hope this helps.

Yes, yes it does help, Thanks. That's a relief, was really hoping I wasn't stuck playing mono anything. I like my versatility and variety. Hoping to come out with alot of Jeskai colors as both my STD decks are R/W & R/U. Will watch the link as well btw.
On topic though, anything else I should know rules or otherwise? Going to try to analyze the Spoilers to see what I should aim for. I don't suppose there's trading/swapping involved, or what you get is what you got?

Basically, you choose the color with the rares you want. You get 6 boosters of ORI and one 7-card booster of random cards in your chosen color. This booster will include one of 8 rares (7 rares and the flip walker in your chosen color to be exact) in foil with the date of the prerelease stamped onto the bottom-left corner of the art in gold. You open all of your boosters and build a 40-card deck from it, similar to draft only with a bigger pool and less control over what you get. For more info, visit the prerelease primer on the mothership.
Edit - Guess I was a little slow. Yes, what you get is what you get. There is no trading.

It's 6 packs of Origins, and one seeded pack based on the color you chose. The seeded has a foil rare or mythic with a date stamp on it. Build a 40-card deck, any colors you like from the packs and seeded pack.

ABad: it's confirmed the flip walker is one of the seeded pack rares?

Be nice if you got 'for sure' the walker you wanted. Well, time to have a look at spoilers. The video kinda summed it up nice too so thanks again for that, and thanks everyone else for the helpful info.

So, looking through Origins spoilers its hard to say what to go for. There are so many good cards, but no way of knowing for sure what you'll end up with. So maybe everyone would like to help sort that out too. I've kinda broke down what I see in the cards here.
White: Kytheon, Hero of Akros Flip is awesome, esp considering I want to fit him in one of my STD decks. Alot of the other white cards however are double symboled which makes them harder to cast considering most times I draft its tri color for reasons. Enchantments seem like a thing for White, creatures are again lots of double symbols. Has a bit of situational removal for creatures, not much else.
Blue: Jace, Vryn's Prodigy Flip is meh, though there are alot of other nice cards in blue. My target card for Blue would be Mizzium Meddler. Lots of ways to be meddlesome, but makes for longer games. Removal seems limited to returning cards. Possibly a splash color?
Black: Liliana, Heretical Healer Flip I think is the best Walker in the set, however I don't play black and haven't invested in it at all. Like white, lots of double symbols so tri color is pushing it. Being limited alot of the creatures are elf based so it is more than likely you would have to go that route. Removal is there although costly cmc wise. Would have to be your choice color I think if you wanted Black.
Red: Chandra, Fire of Kaladesh Flip is ok at best in limited. If there were a way to give her haste and avoidance/vigilence/untap effect you could flip her right off maybe giving you an edge to put the opposition on a timer. Origins doesn't have any 1 drop hasters unfortunately, though it does have some decent critters with a mix of abilities. More draw than I think I've ever seen in red, so that's a plus. Would do well as a main or secondary color, would of liked cheaper burn though.
Green: Nissa, Vastwood Seer Flip in limited I think takes too long to be effective. This is where most of the elves are so a good mix with Black. Definately need the ramp for most of the creatures and even some of the spells are up there in cost (one being 9cmc). Has a tiny bit of enchantment/artifact hate, but nothing else I see.
Gold/Artifact: The gold cards, I don't count on including as there are so few and more than likely if you do get one it won't be related to what your playing. The artifacts however though many depend on what your playing. The only thing promising I see for any color is the Sword of the Animist. if only the goggles didn't specify 'red spell'...
This is all in short.. may seem a bit unorganized as its just a quick overview of what I see before me and I'm not all that good with wordsy things. Also I am kinda trying to base my decision around getting cards I can use for the decks I have (R/W & R/U). Seems like a good plan to me... Hope it helps paint the picture though.

Don't worry too much about pre-release. It's fun and not super-competitive. Also, we'll be doing a discussion before we crack packs explaining things, new mechanics, and some small tips.
You going to the midnight release?

No, I'm going to scalliwags for the all inclusive pizza party. Midnights too late and scallys is alot closer for me too.

Yup, and they're doing top heavy prizing again, from the looks of it.

JANKYARD_DOG says... #16
Not sure how prizing goes, all done by wizards by points and ratios. Seems to me like it's the player who's played in events the longest wins first always no matter how they performed ... Should be per event and not include points from previous anything.

Whaaaa? At my LGS its just pack per win with 3-0 getting 18.

They don't include points from previous events. It's strictly by W-L. The only thing is the Scalliwags likes to top-load their prizes (usually something really big for the winner - this pre-release I think it's a copy of Anthologies) and then not much for everybody else. P-Market is doing something flatter, more akin to Magicrafter's LGS (Although with four rounds)

Yeah, 2HG is what I'm doing and its 2 packs per win per team and a box to split between the winning (4-0) team
