"Tron"?

I've seen posts on tron decks, and tron decks on the cycle, and I've looked through them. I just can't establish the similarities. What the hell IS a tron deck? What defines it, what's the purpose?

A deck using the urzatron lands Urza's Tower , Urza's Mine and Urza's Factory , often to power out good cards like Karn Liberated as early as turn 3.

The old meaning is as PotatoPi notes - Tron = the three Urza lands, which, when assembled, are extremely powerful, like Voltron.

Many players also use it to denote an creature-enhancing strategy dependent on auras and/or equipment - the creatures are modular, like Voltron.

As KrazyCaley said, it can refer to either scenario.

When you see a standard "Tron" deck, it refers to a strategy which is based around taking some sort of resilient creature (Invisible Stalker , Geist of Saint Traft , etc.) and attaching a lot of Auras (pieces) to it to make it much more powerful, just as Voltron.

Except I think he means Urza's Power Plant , rather than the silly factory

Thanks guys, insightful.

There's also the Kaldra Tron in Helm of Kaldra , Sword of Kaldra , and Shield of Kaldra . Also the creature tron strategy isn't limited to just aura's zandl.

my friend's tron deck revolves around locking up Mindslaver , just putting it back on top of his library. Can't remember exactly what cards he uses besides Mindslaver because by that point I'm just like yeap, that's game. It's annoying as fuck to play against but it's basically a deck that forces you to concede, so that's kind of cool

I believe "voltron" refers to a creature loaded up with auras and/or equipment

and "tron" or "urzatron" refers to using the urza lands to generate massive amounts of mana to rush out huge drop creatures.

HarbingerJK, it's a land, walk with Tectonic Edge (if playing modern) or Wasteland (if legacy) or Strip Mine (if casual).

oh yeah, I'm a fucktard once again ugh lol I actually do run Contaminated Ground in my Orzhov deck's sideboard for that match up. I meant to put them on the urzatron lands but I guess it would make more sense to save them for the Academy Ruins

Spreading Seas is another option, hoses them all. (if running blue, since you mentioned counter).

the real question is should I go with Tectonic Edge or Strip Mine for the sideboard in my R/G midrange deck. That one gets destroyed against Tron. I like to keep my decks modern legal but my play group is casual. Last time we played he got Mindslaver out on turn three and I had a fist full of burn...I just looked at him and said "you're gonna have fun." lol

If it's casual, Strip Mine every day all day. Crucible of Worlds just to be a dick about it. Tectonic Edge is too slow for that crap, but it is the best ld in modern.

being concerned about being a dick went out the window when he chose to use Mindslaver for a wincon lol seriously that's like the one deck I hate the most in our playgroup, that and his reanimator. God the first time I played against his Tron I almost tilted lol it's just as interactive as playing against Eggs, just sit there and wait lol
