The Spoiled Besieged cards

What does everyone think of the 4 cards already shown by WotC for Mirrodin Besieged?

I am seriously liking the Phyrexian cards for sure so far.

I must agree with you Leafs,

The Crusader is going into my Infect deck for sure.

Deco_y says... #4

First Strike on infect is almost power creep.

"Oh hai /insert any vanilla 3/3, nice to see you. Look, you're a bit too powerful, so i'ma make you a 1/1 so you don't kill me in combat, k thx."

Qysas says... #5

I have been thinking of running Bladed Pinions in my infect deck just no room yet.

I think it would be great if they were to make a 4cmc 4/4 infect creature. I mean honestly Infect needs some help currently.

December 12, 2010 12:36 p.m.

D34ths_kn1f3 says... #6

if they do that then its a bit to powerful cuz then thats a 3 hit kill, poisons already like attaching double-strike to creature all the time so a 4/4 for 4 would be a bit overpowered, a 3/4 for 4 i think if what they'd do.

December 12, 2010 2:55 p.m.

Deco_y says... #7

If they make a 4cmc 4/4 infect it would have some kind of drawback. Maybe it would give you a poision counter at the beginning of your upkeep.

December 12, 2010 3:03 p.m.

Deco_y says... #8

Or even make you sac an infect creature per upkeep. Maybe make it 4/5 to make it worth it.

Well, I have seen the image for the (supposed) new Tezzeret, and after having read the book involving him and Nicol Bolas, I believe he will most likely be U/R. Blue, because he still like to have a plan, and thinking is his strong point, but also red, because he is definitely more impulsive than he used to be. I guess getting killed by Jace and rebuilt by Bolas does that to you. What do you guys think the new Tezzeret will be like? Any ability speculations? Hopes?

December 12, 2010 6:37 p.m.

Carn13 says... #10

Dang, thought I was the first to see them... I am so Phyrexian.

December 12, 2010 7:07 p.m.

xeratheenigma says... #11

well if tezz died and then was rebuilt then to me he sounds U/B not U/R also black has been known to be impulsive at times.

but as far as phyrexian and mirran go phyrexia seems to have better cards so far i love the black crusader a lot

December 12, 2010 8:02 p.m.

rumor has it tezz is u/b. i just got a boner.

December 12, 2010 8:54 p.m.

brianguymtg says... #13

@xeratheenigma: Well, technically, he never really died, just had his mind turned into, quote, "Head cheese." The rebuilt refers mostly to his mind. He isn't undead, doesn't wield any body-related magic, just manipulates etherium, and solves the mystery of where it comes from. He might even be mono-blue still, and also, the picture being sent around many not be the new art at all, as the book tells us that Jace cut his etherium arm off, and Bolas regenerated it, so he has no 'enhancements' anymore. I don't know what color for sure he is/will be, but that picture may not even be relevant.

PHYREXIA FOR THE WIN!!!

December 12, 2010 9:05 p.m.

xeratheenigma says... #15

that explains it better i havent read any of the books since lorwyn so i wasnt too sure what happened to tezz i just knew jace won. though i hope that the picture shown is his new art because it is awesome. i still think he will be U/B

December 12, 2010 9:20 p.m.

brianguymtg says... #16

Well, whatever happens, he better not shoot up to 80 bucks, like Jace did.

December 12, 2010 9:30 p.m.

xeratheenigma says... #17

agreed i cant and wont shell out that kind of cash for a piece of cardboard

December 12, 2010 9:36 p.m.

brianguymtg says... #18

I do hope I open a few though... I still buy a pack of Worldwake every now and then, hoping the same for Jace.

Here they are:

December 12, 2010 10:42 p.m.

Deco_y says... #22

Mono black infect can almost be viable in Standard now:

5 drop: Skittles

4 drop: Hand of Praetors

3 drop: Phyrexian Crusader

2 drop: Plague Stinger

1 drop: ?

Just need a one drop and some spell support. Loving it.

December 12, 2010 10:52 p.m.

Qysas says... #23

I think this next set is going to be strong on the Infect and Metalcraft sides of the spectrum.

True a 4/4 for 4cmc and Infect could be pretty powerful. Unless that 4cmc is sat 1BBB or even BBGG, or 1GGG or something strange like that. I just think Infect needs a stronger butt to be able to survive the mid late games.

December 12, 2010 10:55 p.m.

Prophylaxis says... #24

In my opinion, I am going to be a bit disappointed if they start using "Phyrexian" on all of their Phyrexian cards.

Mcmurry14 says... #25

Mirran Crusader excites me. I've always had a soft spot for white decks. While my heart lies in green mana ramp, My esper deck holds a place in my heart. I love how even if both crusader begin to attack a player at the same time, both will kill in the same amount of turns. Infect feels very hard to beat, or predict right now.

December 13, 2010 2:10 p.m.

Mcmurry14 says... #26

Wouldn't the one drop for black infect be Vector Asp ? i know its not strong per se. but ive been able to sac them with Throne of Geth and put out Necrotic Ooze for some fun results.

December 13, 2010 3:43 p.m.

Deco_y says... #27

No-one uses Vector Asp because no-one wants to not drop a Plague Stinger or Blight Mamba just to give a 1/1 creature infect. I'd rather drop an Infiltration Lens .

December 13, 2010 4:18 p.m.

They are also in the card database here on tapped out, so you can start adding them to your decks!

Also, 1 drop for black infect = Fume Spitter or Disfigure

December 14, 2010 4:43 a.m.

alblaster says... #32

I wish they made Pierce Strider and Peace Strider comparable in terms of playability. The Pierce is soo much better. They should up the peace strider's lifegain to 6.

I wish Phyrexian Crusader had flavor text. Oh well. Both look awesome in every way.

December 14, 2010 9:51 a.m.

MagnorCriol says... #33

Okay, this isn't exactly spoiled cards, but the art they previewed in today's Arcana...has me pretty dang excited.

http://www.wizards.com/Magic/Magazine/Article.aspx?x=mtg/daily/arcana/602

That's definitely Karn down there. Not looking so good right now...but it's certainly him. And several with Tezzeret (who also looks different. More...evil, certainly, but that's not surprising)

And spoiler/speculation aside, there's just some amazingly beautiful stuff there.

I'm pretty excited about Karn, though. I'm interested to see what they're doing with him (have to admit, I hope they're not turning him evil, though it's been hinted at...)

December 14, 2010 5:57 p.m.

brianguymtg says... #34

From the views of what appears to be Tezzeret and Karn, we may be looking forward to a third set named New Phyrexia... I hope not, but if it is, then we can be sure Karn is evil, because he would probably not let his plane go out without a fight if he wasn't a part of that fight already.

December 14, 2010 6:24 p.m.

Carn13 says... #35

Karn looks Phrexian. I think he's just resigned himself to whatever the plane's coming to, and as such will aid Phyrexia. Even if he isn't, if Tezz is... I just can't decide which to side with. If they're both Phyrexian or Mirran I'm obviously on their side, but if not, I think I'm torn. Also, if tezzeret in on Mirrodin, does that mean Nicol Bolas may play a part here?

December 14, 2010 6:34 p.m.

tezz def looks like hes on the phyrexian side. im pretty confident in him being u/b.

my guess, and hope, is that tezz and karn are both phyrexia and we are blessed with at least 1 colorless plainswalker on the mirran side. that would be so sick.

December 14, 2010 6:42 p.m.

and from the looks of the artwork, 5th or 6th pic down, could we be getting akroma back?!?!?!?!?!?! id poop my pants

December 14, 2010 7:01 p.m.

brianguymtg says... #38

@jonnyxjudgement: You mean that Vulshok woman? That is no Akroma... who's most recent references were a duel deck and Future Sight.

Re: Crusaders

Strong creatures, but with hidden weaknesses.

Phyrexian Crusader's main problem is the niches into which he will fit. He is an infect creature, so he needs to go in an infect deck or he's just a good defender. If he's in an infect deck, he's basically going to be at the top of the curve unless they're running Skithyryxxyxusiis the Blight Dragon, which means that the pro-white won't matter because a Wrath will be coming. Still, like him better than Mirran b/c he pushes through most defenses.

Mirran is nasty, but he's stopped cold by any decent wall (Hello, Wall of Frost ) and his protection colors are odd- pro black helps, but won't save him from most of the format's really good removal.

Still, very strong creatures. Good rares to have.

Deco_y says... #42

We need an infect planeswalker. Would make my LIFE.

Would almost be awesome if he was even more broken than Jace. Then people would STFU about him.

December 14, 2010 10:36 p.m.

MagnorCriol says... #43

I would find it hard to believe that Karn is Phyrexian. At least not yet. Karn's got so many things inside of him - Gerrard, Urza, some of the essence of Serra's Realm - that are completely anti-Phyrexian that it seems unlikely that he's lost the fight.

I know he's fighting, they've hinted at that several times - if I remember correctly, wasn't there something about what he gave up to seal the time rifts in Time Spiral left him vulnerable to the oil that he'd picked up somewhere? - but I don't think he's gone all evil yet.

I'd bet that that's actually part of the major storyline conflict in the Scars of Mirrodin story - Karn's conflict with the Phyrexian influence that's trying to claim him, and how that reflects on the surface of Mirrodin as the battle we're seeing.

And we'll most definitely see bolas, at least in the story if not in card form. Tezzy is his minion right now, so he's playing a part in this. Though I think I read somewhere that he doesn't want Phyrexia to come back either, right?
