Well, there were NO changes to any format, other than legacy in which Land Tax was unbanned. Thoughts?

Yeah, I agree. Also, in matter of minutes, TCGPlayer went from having like >50 copies of Land Tax across 3 of the 4 versions in stock to having at most 14 right now. It's insane.

Grisel and sundering is only banned for magic online edh. I personally will still use Grisel :) (and the playgroup rules yada yada)

Because wizards doesn't manage the paper version's banlist most likely.

Oh, well true. That list applies for everywhere though, as you can't go to a big tournament and play in EDH side events with banned cards unless everybody in the EDH pod agrees to it since it is 'casual.'

true, though that is the same for any casual format. You can't use anything the playgroup disagrees with in a casual format. Though I personally take the official banlist for paper edh as the default :P
But yeah, I should read their logic tomorrow if they posted it on why grisel got banned for online. always interesting.

Well for one thing you can Reanimate him for a measly 1 mana, then proceed to draw as many cards you want, haha. He is quite ridiculous in every way.
June 20, 2012 2:51 a.m.
in EDH it isn't quite as many cards you want really though cuz its a huge deck and if you reanimate him you are already down 8 life plus by the time you get him out you will have been hit by someone unless you get the perfect turn one aka some sorta Dark Ritual , Entomb , Reanimate turn one to get him out early but then you gota find a win con if its a combo deck? then its a singleton deck so you still need to find the card you need too. i am not denying he is crazy good but i would say he should be banned as a general/commander but not full stop. i am using him in my kaalia deck to fuel the deck with fatties and death spells personally, not looking to break him cuz thats not very casual really lol trying to win as fast as possible with a combo deck in EDH strikes me as boring and at least in my meta we don't do that as we are all mates that play on my huge ass dining table haha.

It depends on the level you play at. In high-level decks Griselbrand can get quite ridiculous. A suicide black player will pitch all of his or her life to find an win-con. Plus it's easily cheated into play and produces wicked card advantage given that it has lifelink and players start at 40 life.
June 20, 2012 6:03 a.m.
Yea for sure if you are playing at like a tournament standard just like you do Epoch then he basically enters the battlefield and ends the game either there and then or next turn i apreciate that i will still be running him casually in my kaalia deck he is not worse than a turn 4 Avacyn, Angel of Hope lol not in my kaalia deck anyway!

Sheldon Menery's official announcement and explanation for the Commander/EDH Bannings can be found here: http://mtgcommander.net/Forum/viewtopic.php?f=1&t=12073. MTGCommander.net is the official resource for Rules and Ban updates for the Commander/EDH format.

Rhadamanthus cheers for that link dude, still upset about the ban lol only got my Griselbrand last week just for EDH and now hes banned lol sure he will be allowed by my mates though as i won't be being a douche with him and by the time i find him he will just be acting as a big demon with lifelink i will probably only rarely use his draw ability as in my meta we all attack everyone as equally as possible to ensure no one person gets killed early otherwise that person may be bored for an hour which we don't want and it makes the game more fun when everyone is on liek 10 life and people are getting more and more scared to move lol :-) i love EDH :-)

I for one am happy, mostly because Snapcaster Mage was not banned. I think that Ponder and delver/Traft could have gone but then again I would hate to see another boring G/R format again.

i for one hope they unban Kokusho, the Evening Star in EDH I have a foil version being neglected from kaalia deck or my Dragon deck :-)

You'd hate to see a boring GR format, but you like seeing a boring Delver format? At least when Valakut was king, UB Control was a magnificent deck that could deal with in the right hands, and the format still was more diverse then than it is now. I am glad nothing got banned though. I don't see the need to ban anything just yet, and it's still nowhere near as dominant as Caw-Blade

U/W matchups are more skill based IMO than GR ever will be. I also tend to dislike the raw power that RG decks bring to the game... I prefer finesse, I'm a control player after all.

Darksteel Relic is way over powered. It's messing up standard and needs to be banned.
