Tips for a Mono-Green Deck in Standard

Deck Help forum

I've been testing out a mono-green deck in Standard. It's been doing decently, but it obviously has it faults. I'm not going to pretend this deck is top tier competitive, but I would like advice as to what (if anything) I could do to improve the deck. Unsurprisingly, my deck struggles with control- the new Elspeth, Sun's Champion is brutal. The deck holds its own against aggro, but suffers against getting through on a clogged board so I recently added more creatures with trample. I've considered Primeval Bounty and Into the Wilds but found them too slow, so my card draw right now is Garruk, Caller of Beasts .
Thoughts? All I really want is to be able to place at FNM and win some packs. :)

You might get some Ideas from my deck New age mono green, (I also would like your opinion on that deck as well plz!) as for dealing with elspeth Pithing Needle , and more Bramblecrush 's seem to me the best way to deal with her or using trample damage to redirect to her if that works

xzavierx, I have mixed feelings about Reverent Hunter . Yes, he's easy to get to be a 4/4 or bigger. But he isn't necessarily a creature you want to drop as soon as you have three mana available. That's one downside. I know he combos well with Kalonian Hydra and can gain trample with Nylea. But overall, I found him getting chump blocked so often in the games I was playing that I traded him in for Battering Krasis . I'm not sure it's the right decision, as the Krasis is a little plain, but trample is a very relevant ability. Just by experience, though.

well of course you'd almost never play it turn 3. but you're running ramp (7 instances) and 5 other 3 drops (all w/ GG in cmc). so it would be a turn 4+ move for a 6/6.

turn 1 , either of your 1 dropsturn 2, any of your 2 dropsturn 3, flash in satyr on their turn, or bowturn 4, hunter is 5/5 or 6/6 depending on turn 2 move. or if you went with ramp turn 1/2 you'd play hydra or garruk. which means turn 5 hunter would be 7/7 or 8/8.

those are the scenario's i've seen most often in my mono green deck.

Thanks for the advice so far. Also, what is everybody's opinion on dealing with flyers? Bow of Nylea does some work, but there is also Tower Defense , Windstorm , Skylasher and Arbor Colossus . I can't decide what to sideboard.
