Color Combination With MAX Removal Spells?

Deck Help forum

Posted on July 22, 2014, 1 a.m. by Zephakia

Pretty much, I just want to know which color combination has the most removal in standard post-rotation. By removal I mean "Get that outta here!". I want to build a 2 (max 3) color deck with max removal spells available to choose from.

Thanks for the help!

P.S.- You don't have to list all the removal spells available.

Best bet would be red black i think. Black having kill spells weeks red still having burn a usual. People are going jund lately though with green having so many good things. In any case there ya go.

With the current cards, Jund and Esper are probably your best bet. For post rotation, its a little harder to say. But Rakdos is pretty strong.

Removal is prominent in all colors. Best removal is usually black followed by blue/red, then green/white. So grixis ? Depends on your end game goal honestly . If your looking for fatties, go Jund, Golgari or BUG. If your looking for control, esper, grixis, or Azorius would be your bet.

BWG. Black to destroy creatures, Green to destroy artifact or enchantment, White to exile indestructible permanents.

Depends on what you are looking to remove.

White - Good at exiling permanents and mass removal. (Banishing Light , Chained to the Rocks / Planar Cleansing , Fated Retribution )

Blue - Good at bouncing permanents. So not always a permanent solution, but blue's true removal comes in the form of counterspells. (Cyclonic Rift )

Black - Best at creature and planeswalker removal, but can't touch anything else, so discard is the way to go for anything else. (Hero's Downfall , Doom Blade )

Red - Damage based removal. Double edge sword as it can often go to the face, but damage sometimes just doesn't reach to kill what you want. Also second best colour at dealing with Planeswalkers. (Lightning Strike / Fated Conflagration (and Dreadbore alongside black)

Green - Best at destroying non-creature permanents or having creatures fight for creature removal (Bramblecrush / Mutant's Prey )

So really, when you ask for the best/most... it really depends on what you are looking to kill/remove.

G/B is usually a good start, as seen above it combines to destroy any permanent.

BW can deal with all permanents.

Black and white are the traditional removal colors. I'm unsure of post rotation standard, but you can always just look at the 1k cards yourself to figure out where the best options are.

Actually here is a link to a gatherer search for post rotation cards that contain the words "damage", "destroy", or "exile". It is still over 200 cards and not all of them are relevant, but half the work is done.

Probably Grixis colors. Depends what you mean by removal.

  1. Black
  2. White
  3. Red
  4. Blue
  5. Green

Black is the best removal with white being close behind thanks to all the permanent removal. Red is damage based so it doesn't always scale to later game. Blue is practically all counterspells, got things like curse of the swine though. Green has the most artifact/enchantment removal. I'm guessing this is standard, post rotation the list is almost still the same but black and white are tied and blue and red are tied with blue being slightly better.

I'd have to go with a B/U/W/G/R combo it has the most removal of all and you can't argue with that statement....
