Thornbite Staff?

Commander (EDH) forum

I'm new to EDH, and I see Thornbite Staff being used in a lot of decks. I cannot find a good reason to use it, and was wondering what makes the card viable in many decks.

Thanks --Dorky

For commanders who utilize tap abilities:

Ghoulcaller Gisa, Azami, Lady of Scrolls, Yisan, the Wanderer Bard, and so on.

Visara the Dreadful at the very least.

and there's lots of tap/untap commanders like squiggle mentioned. and because of all the death in edh it gets really useful.

Basically, if a commander (or lots of creatures in your deck) have ab ability that costs "tap:sacrifice a creature, do a thing" the staff lets you do it as often as you can afford to. Ghoulcaller gisa for example, taps, pays one black, sacrifices a creature to make zombies. Then thornbites trigger resolves, untapping her and letting her sac one of the zombies she made to make more. This can continue as many times as you pay black mana.

Thornbite staff is rarely good in edh, but for a select few commanders its very powerful :)

Also, give the creature deathtouch and have a 1 sided board wipe.

some commanders, like merieke re berit and ahhh, shiza, whats his name, the wsper dude who sacs creaatures or enchantments. blah. Im drunk, thats the best you can get outta me. But yeah, some comanders are very based around untapping, and thornbite can help hugely with that.

what they are saying is that only the 2nd part of the staff is mildly interesting.

what pepsi said, except you could replace 'mildly' with 'incredibly' sometimes.

yeah with mildly i mean "not so interesting for most ppl, but some will love it" ;) but the thread already came to that conclusion so i cut it short

I could see it being really powerful with Basilisk Collar and Niv-Mizzet, the Firemind

Goes good with Avatar of Woe and Hell's Caretaker.

It's an infinite combo with Hell's Caretaker correct?

How on earth has no one mentioned Kiki-Jiki, Mirror Breaker yet? The token you create is sacrificed as opposed to RFG.

Krenko, Mob Boss loves it. I use it to combo off in my Krenko deck; put it on him and all you need is a haste enabler and or a sac outlet to go infinite with your goblin tokens.
