The first or The overlord

Hey,

I picked up slivers 3 weeks ago and I've been wrestling with either playing The First Sliver or the Sliver Overlord as the commander.

They both have the same cmc and stats but on one hand Sliver Overlord can tutor any sliver from my deck which could tutor The First Sliver if need be and can also steal other slivers or take back a sliver that someone stole from me (probably not gonna happen but still). On the other hand The First Sliver has a descent chance of giving me a free card everytime I cast a sliver.

What would be the better choice ?

Sliver overlord is good if you know what you want to get or have a combo you want to pull off. If you don't know what you really want each time you use him then you might find yourself slowing the game down a lot by spending a minute looking through every time you use him. Overlord is quicker to resolve, less mana investment, and more random. He's just going to keep things happening without even putting more mana into him. So you can have lines of play where you get battering sliver into battle sliver into acidic sliver. Each will cascade as they are played.

I like the first sliver more, particularly if you don't have set lines of play.

Also you can just keep all your legendary slivers in the deck and before each game roll a dice to determine which is the commander lol.

Overlord is more powerful but he is very boring you just end up searching the same slivers every game.

Depends on what power level you want to go with, but First Sliver combos hard with Food Chain and a cast-from-exile creature.

If the deck is tuned right The First Sliver drops 3-4 slivers to the battlefield for 4-5 cmc.
were Sliver Overlord in a sence is adding 3 cmc to all of your casting costs
For these reasons The First Sliver is the superior choice

Overlord also lets you tutor up Amoeboid Changeling and steal creatures, if you're interested in that. They're both pretty linear, but Sliver Overlord is going to search out and play your best slivers every game, where The First Sliver just randomly empties your deck onto the table.

The 3 sliver tribal player I know rotate through the legends each game just for variety. That being said overlord is the go to for power when they want a more powerful deck

I've had mine for about 3 months. Overlord is the way to go. Don't know if you have them but you can fish for Basal Sliver , Sliver Queen and Lavabelly Sliver . Go infinite an peck your enemies to death. If they manage to stop that somehow before it happens the fish for Virulent Sliver . Cascade is seemingly awesome but chances are you may get to cast one more sliver since most are around 2 or 3 mana and you can only cascade into a lower cost card. Being able to tutor for any card is priceless.

This is what I have at the moment The First. If someone could take a look at it I wrote in the description what I am trying to do so far with the deck.

For the record
The First Sliver and Sliver Overlord are not interchangeable commanders
a deck that is built and tuned to cascade would be rendered almost useless with Sliver Overlord, and a deck thats designed to tutor out combos would almost always wiff with The First Sliver

now if its just a "good stuff" deck packed with every sliver you can find then any 5 color general can work and Sliver Overlord would definitely out perform The First Sliver
But in no way shape or form will Sliver Overlord ever be more powerful then The First Sliver
spending 3 extra mana to cast your sliver spells puts you behind & casting things for free puts you ahead. If your whiffing that's a tuning issue with your deck and has nothing to do with how powerful a card is
