How does someone playing Bulls on Parade - Neheb $40 Budget Minotaurs recoup from discard spells like Bottomless Pit, Delirium Skeins , Malfegor and Sire Of Insanity?

I'm interested in the deck, but there doesn't seem to be enough card draw to offset the aforementioned disadvantage.

These cards don't really allow you to have conventional card advantage if you're discarding your hand every turn, but consider things like flashback, madness and aftermath to allow you to cast things out of your graveyard.

Also, something to think about when playing this deck is it's not disadvantage to be empty handed if everyone is empty handed.

That's true: it's certainly the type of deck that you can't play thoughtlessly, since one wrath effect can undermine your whole strategy.

I usually use a suite of artifacts help offset discard effects like Neheb's: Fool's Tome, Bottled Cloister, and Gustha's Scepter.

With a deck like Bulls on Parade, I'd be far more concerned with the near-constant loss of life from cards like Phyrexian Reclamation, Blood Scrivener, and Asylum Visitor. I've used Trading Post and Urborg Syphon-Mage in the past to gain and still stay on-theme.

Also, I've had far more luck with Chain of Smog over Delirium Skeins, especially in multiplayer. Good luck hellbending!

Wow, I'm really impressed with your suggestions, PurpleSprout458.

I think I can mitigate the amount of life loss via Phyrexian Reclamation and Blood Scrivener with cards like Skeletal Scrying and Coffin Queen.

I am curious why you prefer Chain of Smog to Delirium Skeins, and furthermore, do you consider Hymn to Tourach to be superior to Chain of Smog?

theindigoeffect, I've been playing a Hellbent-themed EDH deck for years now, and am currently trying to add green to the mix. Have a look if you like: Jund Hellbent.

With regard to Chain of Smog, consider you're playing at least a 3-player game. You cast Chain of Smog and target someone. They discard 2 and then throw the Smog right back at you. You discard 2 (all according to plan), and then target another player and repeat.

Play Chain of Smog when you want to activate Hellbent, and you are guaranteed to empty your hand. If you're worried that your opponents are on to your scheme, target yourself first as many times as you want, and then throw it at someone else to end the chain. Hymn to Tourach is a glorious card, and in anything but a Hellbent deck, I'd play it over Chain. Just not in Hellbent.

I hope that explanation sufficiently answered your question. Are you considering the Hymn for your deck?

I already owned a few copies of Hymn to Tourach from my legacy days, so I had considered slotting that in.

In all honesty, I'm surprised I've never heard of a "hellbent" deck before: I'm always on the look-out for new deck types to keep things fresh, so just knowing the name is a huge benefit when considering whether or not to build a deck. I just thought of it more as a "group slug" deck, but that's a broad category.

I'll definitely check your deck out and give it the up-vote that I'm sure it deserves. You've helped me out a lot, which is something that rarely ever happens when I ask a question. lol
