Extraplanar Lens or Caged Sun or both?

Commander Deck Help forum

Any pros or cons to each of these cards? I run a Demon Themed Deck which cost a lot of mana to play. In addition I keep running into "Prison Decks" which have enchantments such as Ghostly Prison. My deck is mono black so I already run card;cabal coffers to help with the mana generation, but I am looking to take it a step further. I want to run mostly card:snow-covered swamps with Extraplanar Lens to but the cost of purchasing 30 Snow-Covered Swamps and Extraplanar Lens is a little expensive at the moment. Is there a downside to running Caged Sun as a cheaper alternative? In the long run I can slowly replace my Basic Swamps for the Snow covered versions, but Caged Sun seems almost too good to be true for a $9.00 card? Also, any good cards to give my artifacts or lands blanket Hexproof? I run Darksteel Forge but that doesn't keep my artifacts or lands from being destroyed my spells or other means. Thanks in advance for any help.

They both are certainly worth it. And you don't need snow lands if your group doesn't play that much black. The same is true for Gauntlet of Power that's a good card as well. When dealing with high cmc tribes like Demons you will need every form of ramp possible. This is because you want consistency and to be able to cast as many as possible. Also I don't think Darksteel Forge is necessary. You even said it doesn't stop your stuff from being dealt with so I just wouldn't run it. You don't have enough Artifacts to warrant it anyways. Those are my thoughts though. Ultimately the choice is yours.

Thanks KingMathoro Looks like Gauntlet of Power along with Caged Sun could be pretty powerful for a mono colored deck. I see your point concerning Darksteel Forge. A lot of my opponents seem to be crazy about board wipes and I got tired of loosing my Gilded Lotus, Sol Ring, etc. so I put it in the deck after a frustrating night of continuous board wipes......Thanks for the advice.

Both should be ran in Mono-Color decks.

There are dangers to running Gauntlet of Power. If you are running Urborg, Tomb of Yawgmoth then any of your opponents may get double from their lands. If they don't need a specific color, they can tap for and get double mana.

You can also run Crypt Ghast which ramps good. Magus of the Coffers is Cabal Coffers on a body.

KingMathoro and Azire

Just a quick question. Caged Sun on applies to the person who controls it correct?

Caged Sun applies only to the person that controls it.

Gauntlet of Power applies to ALL players.

Extraplanar Lens applies to ALL players, but that's why you play Snow-Covered Swamp to give only yourself the benefit.

Redundancy is key. Run both if you can afford it!
