The Bane of Kaladesh

Modern GU (Simic)

TehGonzalez

You know the biggest problem in Magic today?

That's right, freaking artifacts. I'm not going to bother justifying this assertion, because I know you hate artifacts as much as I do. Unless, of course, you're one of those players. You know, them. The ones who aren't us. Anyways, to help rid the world of this menace, today we're going to win by destroying our opponent's artifacts.

"But Gonzalez, what if they don't have any artifacts?" I hear you ask, as if pointing out a fatal flaw in my grand design. Ha! As it so happens, I've already thought of that. As a sign of my great generosity, I have explained below.

By the way, a better title for the deck would have been "The Bane of Myrrodin", but then people would think it's an infect deck or something.

Down to business. First, let us first admire the significant arsenal of weaponry the deck contains. Caustic Caterpillar, Trygon Predator, and Rust Scarab all destroy artifacts in slightly different ways. Predator and Scarab are going to be our main sources of damage, because they'll be attacking with all the time to kill all those artifacts you didn't believe our opponent has.

However, sometimes you need to be able to destroy artifacts without getting creatures past your opponent's blockers. Never fear! Oxidize and Crushing Vines have you covered. Vines also doubles as removal for those pesky flying blockers who want to stop your Trygon Predators from accomplishing their god-given mission.

Now, people keep trying to tell me that not all permanents are artifacts. If this were true (and I'm not saying it is, mind) then you'd have a problem, because this deck is only geared for destroying artifacts. Purely to assuage your fears, I have included a playset of Liquimetal Coating and of Neurok Transmuter, so that we can turn our opponent's permanents into artifacts.

"Wait, I thought you said you hated artifacts. Why would you make more of them?"

Don't try to be clever, you! The more artifacts there are, the more we can destroy. And when we do, we draw a card off Viridian Revel, a reward befitting the righteousness of the act!

The third part of the deck is protection. For example, while playing this deck, I've noticed that my opponents tend to try to kill my creatures. I don't know why they would do that, except to continue to wallow in their artifact-loving ways. To prevent this happening, I tossed in couple Siren Stormtamers and a Padeem, Consul of Innovation. You'll note Padeem doesn't actually protect most of the creatures, but we can fix that with the Liquimetal Coatings or the Neurok Transmuters.

Remember, if you choose to do that, you should still prioritize killing your opponent's artifacts. I bring this up because I keep forgetting it myself. It's an easy thing to overlook. If it helps, think of it this way: your opponent doesn't hate artifacts as much as you, so that means they can't be trusted to destroy them when the time comes.
