Gotta read the fine print, my dawg. Dark Depths is in place of the new land Westvale Abbey.

This deck is JUNK..... Mostly because Ormendahl's technically black, and the new name for Abzan colors is rotating out. :P
I like it; might take some refinement, but I'm glad to see the Warleader getting some extra use these days.

I don't believe the term will rotate. Grixis, Esper, Bant, Naya, and Jund were names of the Shards of Alara, and their respective color combinations kept the name even after the block's rotation. I see the Khans color combos running the same principle.

I think you will enjoy the new Thalia's Lieutenant!

The new Odric would work well in this deck too, give everything flying when sigarda drops in

WeWhoSaidWhat, I know. I was referring to the classic terminology to classify Abzan: Junk. I was making a simple play on words that one card in the deck has a black color indicator, therefore making it those colors. I couldn't think of a better way to phrase the hint without compromising the joke.

I'm brewing something like this for SOI standard, but with tokens, and the new card Second Harvest (doubles your creature tokens). Gideon, Ally of Zendikar and Nissa, Voice of Zendikar are great for these kind of decks.

I think a token version of this might be better because there is more support at the moment, but I also hope to get just another one or two human synergy cards to make this better.

I agree, but once DTK rotates out, tokens is basically dead in the water.

you should run the new Avacyn for value and descend upon the sinful for board wipe, second harvest for doubling tokens and traverse the ulvenwald for tutor or land.

maxmichell: I appreciate the advice. However, a lot of those cards -- while great -- counteract what the deck is trying to do.
Avacyn is great but can easily end up wiping my board. Not so great, even if she is a good creature.
Descend just literally wipes my board. Again, i'm more of an aggro-y type deck. Board wipes hurt me.
Second harvest isn't my favorite because of it's huge setup cost. I like it in EDH, but in standard not so much. And with this deck moving from tokens, it gets less useful.
Traverse the ulvenwald is a fine card but probably is best used in a deck full of 1-ofs to tutor for. There are many situations where I would find myself so desperately needing an obsessive skinner or pious evangel that I'd be willing to jump through all the hoops needed to make that card function. I might need a sigarda, but in that case I should just play another copy of sigarda.

Citadel Castellan seems like it would be good in this, maybe as a sideboard card against more aggressive decks. If you're looking to go more weenie then Consul's Lieutenant could also be good. Really looking forward to some sweet tribal decks come SOI!

I can attest to the power of Consul's Lieutenant. Either it gets burned, leaving your other stuff up, it blocks favorably a lot, it trades well in attacks, or it hits. In my experience, you almost never lose after it hits.

Have you considered Collected Company? It seems to be really strong especially if you're running good 3 mana cards like Veteran Warleader and Pious Evangel. You could then throw the Den Protectors in the mainboard too. She's nuts with the Anthem plus counters from Nissa, Gideon, Thalia, Skinner, or her megamorph. I'm also a huge fan of Duskwatch Recruiter as a one or two of, lets you refill your hand with creatures and then drop them all.
Thinking of some human allies for Warleader to tap: Beastcaller Savant, Lantern Scout isn't bad. Sylvan Advocate isn't a human but it's a great drop and it's an Ally. Not sure if you need them from your decktesting, but I think they're solid, they could even replace some Expedition Envoys.
+1 :)

So I totally forgot to bring back in Consul's Lieutenant when I switched this from ally focus to human focus. Whoops.
I considered and disregarded company when I first built this deck because it was playing a lot less hittable cards. I could see myself removing the oaths of gideon and other things to make room for the companies at this point.
Den Protector may come back MB if I find the space for it. Duskwatch Recruiter was in the deck but actually I found it to be a little annoying with how easy it was to accidentally flip it back to the human side given how my deck plays (this might not even be a bad thing, but it needs more testing). I see myself continuing to test with him, because I love the card.
Sylvan Advocate is awesome, and was in the deck. I removed it because it isn't a human, and being human is become a key part of this deck. Veteran warleader may leave at some point if enough allies are removed. Beastcaller Savant is decent in allies, but this is moving away from that it would seem. Lantern Scout is awesome, but is SB right now.

With the new changes, I think it might finally be time to put veteran warleader to rest in lieu of something with more impact, seeing as I've pretty much gotten rid of all allies now.
For replacements, it would need to be a creature. I'm thinking maybe a mix of lantern scouts and den protectors. Maybe 2 of each? 3 protectors one scout?

Lantern Scout and Veteran Warleader actually go quite well together. I'd keep at least a couple Warleaders. Sigarda gives you swarm tactics and absurd combat tricks with it, and on its own it just about wins games, if you can keep it big.
March 20, 2016 5:35 p.m.
I guess since I do still have the expedition envoys and gideon, allies are technically still around for the ability.
That said, with less tokens being around, the size of warleader is usually quite small

I'd definately put Den Protector in the mainboard. Such a useful utility creature and works well with late game thalia's lieutenant. Maybe a Hidden Dragonslayer?

you put this as standard, but you put in the old (avacyn restored) sigarda
