MH2 Updates —June 11, 2021

With MH2 Spoilers out I have been looking them over for anything to add to the deck. After some theory-crafting and play testing with friends I have decided to make some changes; which can be see below.

  1. Academy Manufactor: Added to the main deck and moved Phyrexian Triniform to the maybe list. This was done because Academy Manufactor is significantly better if it is drawn due to its much lower mana value and it synergizes very well with creating treasure. If you use Helm of the Host on Academy Manufactor to clone it once, making 1 treasure will net you 3 treasure, 3 food, and 3 clue tokens. From what I can tell you get (n-1)x3 of each token for n>1 and n is equal to the number of Academy Manufactors you have. This is a better return on treasure than cloning Magda, Brazen Outlaw but harder to pull off since you do not always have access to Academy Manufactor. The Food and Clue tokens also help ramp you with Inspiring Statuary on the field and are another way for Clock of Omens to go infinite.
  2. Strike it Rich: Added to the main deck and moved Brass's Bounty to the maybe list. Casting instants and sorceries isn't really the theme of this deck, but Strike it Rich is one mana make a treasure and that rate is hard to beat. To top it off you can flash it back for two and a red. If Storm-Kiln Artist or Academy Manufactor are on the field the value is even greater and sometimes mana positive. Playing this on turn one is a good way to start the game and later in the game you can flash it back for the last bit of treasure you need to win the game. I feel Strike it Rich is just a better card for the first 5 or so turns than Brass's Bounty and games don't generally go much longer.
  3. Ragavan, Nimble Pilferer: Added to the maybe list. I am not yet convinced that he is better than one of the utility Dragons or hire costed Dwarfs. The feeling I get is that his power in the deck will be largely meta dependent. If you play in a meta where he can deal combat damage to someone every round for the first couple of rounds, he will be great and really push you forward, otherwise he is worse than a Dwarf that you can tap to get treasure. That said, the low mana value allows you to make infinite treasure with the Cloudstone Extortionist combo with one less artifact/enchantment on the field and his exile ability can sometimes get you great cards that you couldn't normally access. The best one that I got was a Smothering Tithe on turn 2 (land, attack, get treasure, land, attack, get treasure, cast Smothering Tithe.
