THIS DECK IS MOVING TO MOXFIELD —Dec. 3, 2021

This TappedOut page will no longer be updated.

Thank you for all the favorites and help here, but TappedOut has finally gotten glitchy enough for me to transition.

Check on Moxfield for future updates and an expanded primer: https://www.moxfield.com/decks/Vpiz7R8Rfk-0J7yX0AUQtA

I've noticed you've been updating this deck a lot over the past few days. I've been coming back again and again to look as Archangel Avacyn is a deck I've been wanting to build for a while, but is so difficult to deckbuild for (as you clearly know, considering the variants this deck has)

The deck as it is now, is really interesting. At first glance to me it feels super unfocused. But the more and more I look at it, the more I notice the interlocking synergies and just how bloody hard it is to keep the deck down.

One concern I have however is you don't have many ways to manually trigger Avacyn flipping anymore. Unless I'm missing something it's only 3 creatures. Which I feel makes both the Voltron strat more difficult (espesially with not being able to use the red damage tripler you have).

One card that has been spoiled that I think you would like is Robe of Stars. Since Tapped out doesn't have it yet I'll share a link JIC http://www.magicspoiler.com/mtg-spoiler/robe-of-stars/ I think it works with keeping your commander alive, and not losing anything.

Lord_Rivandere: I'm glad this deck inspires you, in all its MANY incarnations!

Yeah, the current version is definitely much more complex to pilot than the early versions -- the synergies are less obvious, but they're still there!

There's a few more ways to flip Avacyn you might have missed! Beyond the four obvious self-sacrifice creatures ( Benevolent Bodyguard , Ranger-Captain of Eos , Selfless Spirit , and Remorseful Cleric ), we also have two other controllable death triggers in Solitude 's evoke ability and the germ when we unequip Nettlecyst . Also, Ranger of Eos almost always retrieves Benevolent Bodyguard as one of its two creatures, so that's essentially a guaranteed flip as well :)

And sometimes it's worth just using a Sword of Fire and Ice or Umezawa's Jitte trigger to hit our own things in a pinch ;) But yeah, the flip damage has become a bit less of a true FOCUS and more of a... deterrent? "You'd better not block/kill/attack my hatebear, otherwise Avacyn will Purify your battlefield with deathtouch!"

I don't quite understand something you said: why can't I use Fiery Emancipation without flipping Avacyn?

And yeah, there are SO many things I want to add to this deck... Hope of Ghirapur seems playable again given Urza's Saga , I want to find a slot for Kaldra Compleat so I can cheat it out with Stoneforge (and get another death trigger off the germ), and there's at least 4 cards I'm definitely testing in Avacyn from the new set ( Share the Spoils , Fighter Class , Oswald Fiddlebender , Mantle of the Ancients) and like 20 more I'm considering (including Robe of Stars)... This deck does so many things, though (voltron-control-hatebears-combo), that it's really hard to find slots...

I'd love to talk further about Avacyn whenever you want! You can either ask me here, or reach out on Discord: daedalus#8885

Thanks for the reply!

Yeah I noticed bits and pieces. But I struggle to see combos with just a decklist. That is why the primer from way back when drew me into this deck to begin with.

I don't know why I glazed over Ranger-Captains self ability! I didn't catch the evoke either. I only read the removal bit thinking of it as a creature. This is what I get for skimming what each individual card does xD

That is honestly fair. It also takes the consequences of the flip kinda out of your hands and can be politic'd from there. Although I will admit a fondness for the flip trigger destroying everything.

I was looking at red damage doublers for a potential route to take Avacyn in, and for some reason it got in my head they all specify red permanents. Since a fair few of them do care about specifically red. TLDR my reading comprehension and memory was awful Saturday apparently.

I can see the use. Hope of Ghirapur does what the deck wants you to do, and synergizes with the artifact subtheme. It could probably spawn another variant of the deck if you wanted :P Onto the other point. Boros equipment is a VERY consistently supported archetype. Wizards seems to really enjoy printing support for it. Who am I to argue with it seeming to be a playable archetype in EDH now.

Daedalus (The Admin, She/Her) I've playtested your judgement Avacyn deck and i've got questions for you:

1- Can Fiery Emancipation be replaced by any damage doubler instead or you actually really need the damage tripler?

2- On average, on wich turn do you actually win with the deck if you're not stopped?

3- Is the primer up to date completly because there are some cards that are not in the actual Primer Deck like Argentum Armor / Kami of False Hope / O-Naginata?

4- Do you feel the deck could want more wheel effect?
