ProTour Kaladesh Updates —Oct. 17, 2016

Man, what a protour! I'm so happy that control shells, albeit Jeskai and Grixis, beat out RW vehicles. After seeing their decklists, here are the changes I've made.

-1 Sphinx of the Final Word

-1 Noxious Gearhulk

-2 Spell Queller

-1 Ruinous Path

-1 Liliana, the Last Hope

-2 Concealed Courtyard

-1 Fumigate

-2 Niblis of Frost

+3 Torrential Gearhulk

+3 Glimmer of Genius

+2 To the Slaughter

+1 Gonti, Lord of Luxury

Okay, so there's a bunch of changes. The first one of all of them is the removal of Sphinx of the Final Word. While I think it's a phenomenal card, the format is getting faster, and I find that by the time I can get it out, it's too late to do anything. So I took it and the two Niblises out for three Torrential Gearhulks. They cost one less than the Sphinx, have flash, AND they get me a free instant flashbacked. The additions of the To the Slaughters and Glimmer of Genius are for that reason, so I have more instants that I can flashback. Yes, it makes delirium harder to get, but I don't really care about that as much. My job is to either win with the gearhulks or hold out long enough to cast Emrakul, so delirium is helpful, but not necessary.

Furthermore, the addition of all that blue mana required a change in my mana base. For now, I replaced the Concealed Courtyards with two more Choked Estuaries, but if you guys think I need to do something else, feel free to tell me!

Another Gonti is something I'm trying out for now; two didn't feel like I was getting them often enough when I needed them, so I upped it to three. That's all there is to it.

As for sideboard changes, they're fairly straightforward:

-1 Linvala, the Preserver

-1 Kalitas, Traitor of Ghet

-1 Lost Legacy

+3 Flaying Tendrils For those pesky token and vehicle decks.

These are the preliminary changes; I'm going to be fine-tuning the balance leading up to Game Day.
