Introduction

This is a mono black rat tribal deck that cost less than $80! Its goal is to fill the board with rats and more rats until you can do lethal damage.

How it works

You'r going to get out rats that get bigger (usually Rat Colony it's an 18 of) and make them harder to block using Piper of the Swarm. Another way to start is to get out a turn two Pack Rat. You can discard a card turn three for another one and every time you get another rat your other rats get BIGGER!

Card choices

You might notice that unlike most rat tribal decks I'm not playing a ton of discard. Instead I play extra Rat Colony and cards that I think can be more useful. A card that isn't in most rat decks is Nightmare Shepherd. It gives all of your rats an extra live and they keep their abilities. It allows you to swing with a passive Rat Colony say a 6/1 without you fearing that they'l just chump block their 1/1. For removal there's Dismember which is usually going to be a kill spell for and 4 life and that's pretty busted. I still have some discard is the deck (Inquisition of Kozilek, and Chittering Rats although the second one's not technically discard) because discard is good and if you'r playing black you should have it.

game plan

For keeping a hand usually you'l want at least two land and something to play on turn two and three. Most games it will just be: turn one Swamp pass. Turn two Rat Colony pass. Turn three Rat Colony and swing for 3. Hopefully around turn four you'l get either multiple rats or Piper of the Swarm and if you have the fourth land then hopefully Nightmare Shepherd.

On a budget

Because this deck is on a budget there isn't any Thoughtseizes or Mutavault and Urborg, Tomb of Yawgmoth instead for the lands it's just swamps and for discard it's Inquisition of Kozilek. It can be a more powerful deck but instead it's a budget deck. Thanks for reading about this deck. Suggestions are welcome as always!
