Untap.in —March 17, 2015
So I took this deck to untap.in just to see how it would do... So far it has stood up to a janky mono-black vampire/demons deck, an esper control (poor deck build on opponents part... he showed me what was in the deck, lets just say not enough color fixing ;) ) and just recently an also janky Ojutai (jeskai R/U/W) Tron/artifcact deck (plenty of color fixing, not enough other parts)... still wins by T5 against "real" players. IMPRESSED!
All these games were 3-game matches.
Wins so far in modern:
Janky Mono-B Vamps/demons
Esper control
Janky Ojutai Artifact
AND JUST RECENTLY THE BIG WIN SO FAR:
R/U TWIN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I CANNOT BELIEVE THIS BUDGET BUILD JUST ANNIHLATED A VERY POWERFUL MODERN DECK...... I AM SUPRISED AND SO HAPPY!!!!!!!!
@Abubroki if i may ask, have you playtested it yet? that is where the brilliance lies. as an aggro deck, most players should be able to pilot this deck no problem... and like you said, for modern format, this is cheap, yet extremely effective at what is designed to do (smash faces).
I haven't yet had the oppurtunity to play it at a FNM level or higher, as I have 2 jobs, but in table-top games, my friends have pretty much banned it.... as it is really hard to combat it's speed, and it does have survivability.... it has survived board wipes and still managed to win... so go ahead, test it a few times, let me know how it performs for you. Thanks for the +1 and the comment!

to answer you question, I have opted out of counterspells entirely, as hexproof does its job well enough, and if for some strange reason a board wipe hits (say a game lasts that long), I can always just outrace my opponent again (which this deck has done).
I did have a few counter spells in here while I was brewing it, and it slowed down almost to a choke, so i took them out in favor of locking (Ice Cage ) and bouncing (Vapor Snag and Unsummon ). Once I did that, this thing took off.

@Kcin, no, I just saw it here in T/O, but I am willing to playtest it. It will take me a while to assemble the remaining cards and figure a SB tailored for my LGS (I have two... toddlers), but I will and I will let you know.

Just playtest it here on tappedout. It is cool that you want to build it IRL, though. I'm honored. I understand the kid thing, i have 1 of my own, hence the 2 jobs, so yea, I get you there.

Ice Cage keeps the creature from attacking or blocking... there are ways to untap creatures well before my opponent needs to use the 6 mana to untap the creature.... like Hidden Strings for example.... so to me, your suggestion actually seems a detriment to the deck. for this reason I cannot justify using it. thanks though.

Yes, you are absolutely right... I guess Playing Standard for a while can be hazardous to your Modern skills...

Very nice deck. Also very budget-friendly :). I suggest Mana Leak for good disruption and tempo and stuff. +1, Good luck!

@Ancient_Sentinel in my experience with building and testing this deck, counterspells are actually a hindrance. The deck is fast, and hexproof does a good job. Every counter I have tried, slows the deck down too much for my liking. I do understand your suggesting a powerful counter like Mana Leak , I just can't sacrifice speed for protection at this time.

Also don't forget to click the upvote button... You said +1, but your name isn't listed in the votes list...

First things first ! This deck is awesome already upvoted it :DI would consider adding 4 copies of Turn Aside . It fullfills all requirements to protect our beloved Lord of the Unreal although it doesn't help much in counter match ups.

@ShadokK I actually don't want/need counterspells.... the 2 i have in the deck are placeholders for some missing pieces i dont have IRL (see sideboard for the missing pieces)..... they really slow the deck down, I would rather play a creature than anything else.... Thanks for the upvote and suggestion though.

First of all, this is a very impressive deck, especially when considering the $23 budget. I would add a couple more Lord of the Unreal . +1

Wow, really surprised by how deadly this deck was after playtesting. +1

@mjmjpartytime if you don't mind me asking, what did you test it against and how many games? The deck is ridiculously streamlined, it does have the inherent aggro problems, such as potentially missing a curve drop, but it is still consistent for the most part. I am glad you liked it, thanks for the +1.

Mhm If we consider Cyclonic Rift.
I think Echoing Truth might fit quite well due its use as boardwhipe against token and also other creatures, with the addition that you return every other permament with the same name to the opponents hand.

also, have you considered Stubborn Denial ? it seems in your deck it could easily be a hard counter for just U...
