Khalni Gem , Living Tsunami , and Burst Lightning are probably our best choices. I'm thinking Burst Lightning might be best.

It's between the the foil Island the Kor Hookmaster or the Burst Lightning . Either way passing this pack will make me regret something. Last draft I did I walked away with 8+ foils so I think I would have to skip the Island T.T and go with one of the other two. Probs Burst Lightning .

April 1, 2010 3:59 a.m.

TAMA says... #3

Khalni Gem -.- really?

April 1, 2010 4:03 a.m.

KrazyCaley says... #4

Khalni Gem is respectable mana fixing and is a very nice aid to a landfall deck. I think it's considerable. No match for Burst Lightning though.

April 1, 2010 4:05 a.m.

tapanmeister says... #5

2x Living Tsunami is ruthless. I'm not choosing simply because I'm concerned about the amount of blue that has been passed already. Burst Lightning is by far the best red common, and perhaps best common in zendikar. Kor Hookmaster is also awesome0o, but not on par with the other two, which are both p1p1 picks. Getting either on p4 is a blessing. Nod goes to Burst Lightning for me, but it doesn't come lightly, for passing tsunami's is not in my nature. Khalni Gem is garbage in draft.

mattlohkamp says... #6

Island . definitly.

April 1, 2010 4:09 a.m.

tapanmeister says... #7

the Kor Cartographer is good too. there is a lot of midrange white going around in these packs.

April 1, 2010 4:10 a.m.

tapanmeister says... #8

Wait, the Island is foil? Aren't those worth like $8??? I'm with matt!

April 1, 2010 4:11 a.m.

TAMA says... #9

AU$5.

April 1, 2010 4:19 a.m.

mattlohkamp says... #10

uh seriously though. another Living Tsunami would be interesting, Khalni Gem , like Harrow , would help me feel better about whatever colours we end up picking, Kor Hookmaster is a neat way to buy some time... Kor Cartographer is actually a halfway decent way in draft to ramp up white a bit, though the gem might outweigh it in terms of usefulness (Grizzly Bears Runeclaw Bear appeal notwithstanding)

geez, but Burst Lightning , though. kind of makes me wish we'd done zectar-shrine earlier. We're getting some decent red, maybe the universe is trying to tell us something... Shatterskull Giant and maybe even runious-minotaur might make their way back around to us, maybe Magma Rift ... yeah, I'm okay with Shock / kick for an improved Pinpoint Avalanche . shock-lightning.

April 1, 2010 4:20 a.m.

mattlohkamp says... #11

"Kor Hookmaster is a good way to buy some time," I was trying to say. Also don't get me wrong, the idea of 2x Living Tsunami really appeals to me, but we'd be taking kind of a chance there.

Depends what art the island is.... Man, has no one noticed the Bushwhacker? He's hot to trot with the Geopede we slugged last time. But a second Tsunami....this is a tough choice. I'd have to draft the Burst Lightning though.

April 1, 2010 4:29 a.m.

l0ki says... #13

Does anyone else notice that people are rare drafting hardcore?

April 1, 2010 4:30 a.m.

mattlohkamp says... #14

@l0ki - this one is the BEST!

The Goblin Bushwhacker IS interesting - but does it have the wide appeal of the others? I mean, good in boros bushwhacker, naturally, but that's because it's all distilled down to be fast and mean - do you think it'd still do okay in something more general like this? (though I'd be pretty likely to give it a serious look if it somehow made it around again)

April 1, 2010 4:35 a.m.

tapanmeister says... #15

If we ever see a card:Conqueror's Pledge, we have to nab a bushwhacker.

Siegfried says... #17

I think it's close between Hookmaster and Burst Lightning. I've been hurt badly in draft games by a well-timed Hookmaster, but Burst Lightning is....well, it's Burst Lightning.

Having to pick one I say Kor Hookmaster .

April 1, 2010 6:15 a.m.

TAMA says... #19

Burst Lightning is so much better than Kor Hookmaster although I would still pick that over the Living Tsunami . But I think the decision is whether to earn money from a foil island or win the draft.

April 1, 2010 6:28 a.m.

mattlohkamp says... #20

see, a foil Island actually generates 1.1 blue mana when you tap it - and since Living Tsunami has the double blue in the casting cost, we're going to need every extra bit of mana we can get our hands on.

April 1, 2010 6:54 a.m.

jjmacgrinch66 says... #21

i would go with the hookmaster and try to go white red aggro with creatures if the packs permit. remember that there will probly be more burn in other packs. i go with the hookmaster

April 1, 2010 8:21 a.m.

SirNips says... #22

Well yeah. Which 3 idiots passed a bushwacker, a burst lightning and a tsunami?

I'd say on the basis of this we draft the Island because clearly our opponents don't know how to draft.

On the other side though the sensible choice would be to draft the tsunami i think. We have to take the risk and hope to get passed or open another burst.

April 1, 2010 8:52 a.m.

burst lightening]] is nice but the Living Tsunami is mighty tempting

Burst Lightning . going RW or RU feels good right now.

merubhanot says... #25

Wow, this pack is unbelievably good for a fourth pick. As I see it we have a number of choices: 1. Living Tsunami 2. Goblin Bushwhacker 3. Khalni Gem 4. Burst Lightning 5. Kor Hookmaster

Now of these I think the three best options are Living Tsunami , Burst Lightning , and Kor Hookmaster , all of which are phenomenal cards. Of these, I would probably find myself picking Kor Hookmaster because it's a great card that I've found works very well in draft, though I wouldn't hold it against anyone for picking any of the other three. Every other card in this pack would be a huge mistake though.

April 1, 2010 10:33 a.m.

exarkun809 says... #26

You can't pick living tsunami... We're going r/w now after seeing this pack and knowing that the first 3 packs will probably come back around with some decent red. There's been no blue other than the tsunamis, with a small chance seastalkers comes back around.

This pack is SO good that I think we'll definitely see something like the red ally, khalni, or cartographer come come back around to us (and another red ally in the previous pack). We know half the people so far are not going red or white if this is our 4th pack.

The choice is either Burst or Hookmaster. I go with Burst.

April 1, 2010 11:18 a.m.

exarkun809 says... #27

And small chance bushwhacker comes around in last 4 cards seals me going r/w for this pack's round.

kabrazell says... #30

Burst Lightning is my pick, but for all of those who are hating Kor Hookmaster , that card is really good, you just need to know how to use it. It's not always just a 3 drop, sometimes you hold onto it to stall a big threat, or to just get in with your team.

Regardless, burst-lighting is the pick, we probably wont be hurting for creatures in W/R and can probably pick up a hookmaster or something later.

April 1, 2010 1:54 p.m.

tapanmeister says... #31

Exarkun809..... we aren't in any set color scheme yet. Living tsunami is completely pickable, Burst Lightning is just more so.

Hookmaster is so abusable with a skyfisher or a Narrow Escape (which we saw going around earlier). 3rd best white common in Zen.

April 1, 2010 2:26 p.m.

exarkun809 says... #32

Tapan: Sure, we're not bound to anything right now. But, given the first 4 packs you have to be in the mindset of going red... there's not really a question to that. And then on top of that Burst is the best card.

I say R/W just b/c that seems to be what's going to come around if we open fairly evenly distributed packs. We could very well end up R/U, so yea Tsunami is pickable, but you can't pick it b/c Burst is the clear choice. Unless of course you just really want to play blue :)

April 1, 2010 2:43 p.m.

Well, if we're at an 8 person table and that Living Tsunami just made it through half the table, then why don't we test the other three players? We gotta pass up the Tsunami. Here we're looking at the Goblin Bushwhacker or the Burst Lightning . The bushwhacker requires a bit of timing, but can clean up if we get a lot of weenies. That's never a certainty in draft, and we'd basically have to start looking now. The burst on the other hand is pretty pliable even if we do go for red in a bit of a splash. I'm feeling the Burst Lightning

April 1, 2010 2:55 p.m.

Kor Hookmaster or Goblin Bushwhacker . There are plenty of common and uncommon cards in Zendikar/WWK that bolster little guys like these... Goblin War Paint , Slaughter Cry , Brave the Elements , etc. A hookmaster with a Trusty Machete is nothing to sneeze at. There are many commons we'll see coming our way that need a good body, and both of these are good.

Our picks thus far are pretty diverse, so I don't think we need to worry much about signaling.

KrazyCaley says... #35

Burst Lightning appears to be the consensus, but I'll give it another day at least.

April 1, 2010 6:25 p.m.

mattlohkamp says... #36

hey if you called it 'daily draft' it'd be catchy because of the alliteration and all. Also, it'd help move things along... posting a new pass every night is a good way to go.

MagnorCriol says... #37

Since I'm so inexperienced here, I confess to being quite lost at some of the assertions people are making about the people to either side of us.

How do we know what colors they're drafting? What clues do I look for in my next draft to help me pick up on those things?

April 1, 2010 10:54 p.m.

KrazyCaley says... #38

@Magnor

Probability-wise, we can expect to see about the same proportion of colors among all the cards. If we notice that there's less green than tehre should be, for instance, that's a hint that someone is drafting green, etc.

April 2, 2010 2:47 a.m.

KrazyCaley says... #39

All right, Daily Draft it is. One day seems about right anyway. I reserve the right to post drafts more or less frequently than that.

April 2, 2010 2:50 a.m.

rockleemyhero says... #40

i think id go with the living tsunami, another 4/4 flier plus the landfall help? daaaaangggg. but it would shed 2 tears to pass that burst lightning :(

and question: if you have 2 living tsunamis out you have to return 2 lands to your hand right?

April 2, 2010 3:49 a.m.

jjmacgrinch66 says... #41

not if you sacrifice one ;)

April 2, 2010 7:32 a.m.

So if I have 10 foil islands I get 11 mana? I'll try enforcing that at a tourny and see how many people fall for that.
