From Blogatog, Mark Rosewater's Tumblr:

"Ive been getting these two questions about Battle for Zendikar quite a bit, so I think its time I finally answered them.

First, yes, Battle for Zendikar will be the return of full-art lands. Ive seen them and youre all in for a real treat.

Second, Battle for Zendikar does have a cool rare cycle of dual lands, but theyre brand new designs and not the Zendikar fetch lands."

can we have the link?

JWiley129 says... #3

  1. YAY! More full arts is better for everyone!

  2. I'm not terribly surprised. But I wonder whether "brand new designs" means a new type of dual land or a new twist on another type of dual land (aka Enemy colored Manlands ala Celestial Colonnade).

EDIT CheeseBro - I just checked Maro's tumblr to be sure that OP was telling the truth, and I can confirm. I can't post a link right now, but the information is legitimate.

So does this mean the Zendikar fetchlands will spike? Well, time to finish my playset of Catacombs.

golffore297 says... #5

I'm on mobile, so I can't link right now, but as soon as I have the availability I will do that unless some kind soul beats me to it.

JWiley129 says... #6

NoPantsParade - on TCGPlayer it doesn't appear to have any movement as far as prices go. So if you want to buy them, I'd do so now.

August 5, 2015 3:25 p.m.

NoPantsParade says... #7

Yeah, I was about to buy them on Coolstuff because of a loyalty discount, but as soon as I went to process the order, someone bought the last 3. At least I got them on EBay.

I'm hoping for brand new land designs, but I'm guessing (based on very little factual reasons) we're getting enemy man lands

August 5, 2015 3:53 p.m.

I read that as "there's a new cool set that isn't fetches," but nowhere in that statement does it confirm that we won't be getting fetches. Maybe I just misread it.

August 5, 2015 3:55 p.m.

00xtremeninja says... #11

I just don't see Wizards have all 10 fetches in Standard at a time.

August 5, 2015 3:59 p.m.

00xtremeninja says... #12

also, for someone who was out of the game during the first time full art lands were around. Did the full arts take place as a replacement for the basic lands, or was there like a 50/50 chance of getting a basic land or a full art land. I know someone on here said that the fat packs had the full arts in the land packs, just wondering how it worked for boosters.

ducttapedeckbox - I'm pretty sure that " Battle for Zendikar does have a cool rare cycle of dual lands, but they're brand new designs and not the Zendikar fetch lands." means we won't be getting the enemy fetchlands in BFZ.

00xtremeninja - From what I know, you get full-art lands in Booster packs, but NOT in the land-packs of Fat Packs.

August 5, 2015 4:01 p.m.

Maybe they will reprint some older checklands?

August 5, 2015 4:01 p.m.

JWiley129 says... #15

chessmaster156 - They had the checklands in M15 for a while, but they interacted too well with the Fetchlands and forced people into playing Shards rather than Wedges. While the latter was a reason to not print them there, the former might be enough to not print them in BFZ. Also, Maro said "New designs" and checklands are an old design.

August 5, 2015 4:04 p.m.

The only possibility is that there's this new set and the fetches. Highly unlikely, but something to note.

I'm not banking on fetches after this, we're almost definitely not getting them, just sharing my interpretation. We all know MaRo can be tricky with his wording.

August 5, 2015 4:06 p.m.

NoPantsParade says... #17

Maybe they're just single color fetch lands. That'd be silly though. I wish they would finish the Future Sight lands.

August 5, 2015 4:06 p.m.

JWiley129- Yeah I should have used my brain there. I hope they are designed for the budget player because this standard meta is not very budget friendly as far as decent manabases.

August 5, 2015 4:07 p.m.

Single color fetches would be nice budget options for modern players.

JohnnyBaggins says... #20

I, for one, welcome our new Rare Land Overlords.

August 5, 2015 4:10 p.m.

Based on the post and the fact that two cycles of rare lands seems excessive, I'm not expecting fetches (and I am expecting the lands to be something completely new, not just different colors of existing lands). That being said, the evolving wilds that was leaked earlier was numbered 236/274, taking away 20 basic lands that leaves 18 other non-basic lands in the set.

August 5, 2015 4:13 p.m.

I was wrong and I'm glad. More fetches would have been awful for Standard mana bases, we need true dual lands.

Anyone think this decreases the odds we see Landfall return?

August 5, 2015 4:14 p.m.

JohnnyBaggins says... #23

Given the fact that we'll have Full Art lands along with normal art lands, I think it's more than 20 Basic lands.

August 5, 2015 4:15 p.m.

JWiley129 says... #24

Rasta_Viking29 - I'm pretty sure there will be riots if Landfall doesn't return in BFZ.

August 5, 2015 4:17 p.m.

NoPantsParade says... #25

What if they put landfall on lands? That would be nuts and broken. Just imagine that.

August 5, 2015 4:19 p.m.

JohnnyBaggins says... #26

Rasta_Viking29 That really depends. We had a discussion like this earlier when Origins released:

Front:
Dried Out-Delta

Tap: Add to your mana base.
When you control two or more forests and/or Islands, exile Dried Out-Delta, the return it transformed to the battlefield under its owners conrol.

Back:
Vivid Delta
Tap: Add to your mana base.

This would be something we never had, be playable and keep Landfall alive. Similar to a fetch land, twice a turn later in the game.

August 5, 2015 4:20 p.m.

suislecalme - In Zendikar, full art basic lands were assigned the same number as their non-full art counterparts and just had a or b after the number to denote the difference.

August 5, 2015 4:22 p.m.

The full art lands have the same number as the regular basics. Unless that changes, I think it's still 20 basics number wise.

actiontech says... #29

Note that nobody has said they won't have enemy fetches in the block, just BFZ. So it's possible they would be printed in the 2nd set of the block which, I believe, is when KTK rotates so we'd still have 5 fetches in standard.

Also, MaRo implied the new lands are just that - new - so they won't be the existing manlands.

August 5, 2015 4:28 p.m.

APPLE01DOJ says... #30

Enemy colored manlands would be sweet. They'd do more for modern than a fetch reprint would :)

August 5, 2015 4:29 p.m.

jchudz says... #31

suislecalme in zendikar, the full-art lands occupied the same slots as their non-full-art counterparts.

August 5, 2015 4:30 p.m.

I was thinking the same thing, actiontech. Also, I'm not expecting enemy colored manlands since he says the design of the card will be new, and enemy colored manlands are would be the same design as the existing ally ones, not new.

VampireArmy says... #33

ChiefBell or Epochalyptik this should be featured, yeah?

August 5, 2015 4:42 p.m.

Servo_Token says... #34

As a real answer to those asking, Original Full Arts were in booster packs of all shapes and sizes (so regardless of where you get the booster pack from, ex. fat packs, intro packs, booster boxes), as well as in the land pack in a fat pack (That means you get 59 full arts per fat pack). The only place that didn't see full arts was the intro packs, they had the same art on a regular border land. I suspect they do the same here.

I just bought all the marsh flats.

August 5, 2015 4:43 p.m.

NoPantsParade says... #36

I bought 4 Catacombs, a Rainforest, and a Flats. I was going for 2 Rainforests, but someone else bought one as I was filling out stuff.

August 5, 2015 4:45 p.m. Edited.

kengiczar says... #37

No fetches = A lot of my commander friends that would have bought packs for them will buy singles instead. Still it's not like it's a big blow since they don't normally buy packs anyways. I hope these new duals are cool then I can finally replace the tri-land in all my 3 color commander decks, and maybe get rid of the check land which are tertiary and secondary colors respectively.

August 5, 2015 4:47 p.m.

KTK and FRF rotate when the block after BFZ comes out, right? so reprints of fetches in the second set of BFZ will be unlikely since all 10 fetches would be in standard, but possible since it would only be for a couple months.

August 5, 2015 4:51 p.m.

IvoryFrost says... #39

everyone, grab those fetchlands before the prices spike :(

August 5, 2015 4:55 p.m.

abenz419 says... #40

I read that as Zendikar fetches won't be in Battle for Zendikar.... but nowhere does it say they won't be in the second set of the block. So, I wouldn't guarantee that we don't see a reprint of them just yet.

Also for whomever said maybe it's mono colored fetches, that's out of the question. Not because they'd be bad or useless or anything like that, but because MaRo says it's a "cool rare cycle of dual lands". So it's confirmed that it's not a mono colored cylce.

August 5, 2015 4:57 p.m.

brandontraps says... #41

I knew it. How did I know it? Because I sold my playset of Verdant Catacombs a month ago betting on a reprint. Every economic move I make in magic bites me in the ass lol

Putrefy says... #43

Buy blue ZEN fetches now. Do it, buy a playset, you will not regret.

August 5, 2015 5:05 p.m.

kengiczar says... #44

Ok so after letting my brain expand a little here's one possible thing it could be.

Land Name

", , Sacrifice Land Name: Draw a card."

This would be very weird as it would help prevent land flood, with mono and something like Delver eagerly eating it up. Also having duals that you can sacrifice to draw in response to LD seems like a thing.

Or perhaps they will make duals that are indestructible as long as they are untapped, or duals that have an option of getting a "fortification" counter to make them indestructible, if you let them come in tapped.

Just shooting out whatever comes to mind at this point, but that's half the fun of MTG.

Putrefy is right about the price spike. $3200 for a Misty Rainforest. I hope that is a typo on there lel.

Well, no need to buy a BfZ box now. Might get a Fat Pack though if it is definitely full art land.

August 5, 2015 5:23 p.m.
