Back in Mirage, Green got Worldly Tutor , blue got Mystical Tutor , White got Enlightened Tutor , black got Vampiric Tutor , and red got left out in the cold.

Which would work into this set fit red better?

Chaotic Tutor R

Instant

Search your library for a card, shuffle, and put it in top of your library.

When you draw your next card, discard a card at random.

Chaotic Tutor R

Instant

Shuffle your library.

Scry 1.

Anyone else feel these would be decent and pretty on par with red?

Well red has a tutor. It's called Gamble and it's very... red.

Red did get Gamble not that long after... so... not left out for long. It's not an instant true but it does grant you immediate access to whatever card in your library as long as luck is on your side.

As for the suggested cards, I don't think red should get another tutor that's basically a slightly worse Gamble with possible loopholes that makes it less risky than Gamble. For instance in conjunction with Outpost Siege . Additionally, it would be a very insane card for Narset, Enlightened Master or basically anything that cares about the top card of your library.

I think number 2 is pretty tame. It's an effect you might want, so I wont say useless, but it feels very niche.

I feel like red could possibly get a similar styled tutor to the cycle mentioned in the OP. One that searches for a sorcery or artifact - half Mystical, half Enlightened Tutur but both card types that red have higher affinity with.

I think that it needs to be brought up to speed with the others and search for a card type:

Chaotic tutor
Instant

Search your library for a planeswalker card and reveal it. Shuffle your library and place that card on top.

Now, obviously, it could not be made during mirage, but still, I think it is good enough to see play now.

Honestly, not to be the party pooper here but I don't quite get the idea of the thread. capriom85 obviously wasn't aware that a red tutor already existed and I feel like Gamble is incredibly on point with red's identity.

We can spend all day shuffling ideas around, I honestly don't think we'll get anything more accurate than this. You can maybe give it instant speed but IMO the effect really is what you would expect and sign for as a red mage :)

Boza What is chaotic about that tutor? Also Red typically don't care that much about finding specifically planeswalkers.

Something that actually might be chaotic for a tutor:

"Search your library for three cards and exile them face down. Choose one at random and put that card on top of your library, and the rest of the exiled cards on the bottom of your library in a random order."

Well, I was just using the name in the original post, probably the correct one would be "Planar Tutor". After a card like Planebound Accomplice in MH1 I think this is a viable new avenue for red - planeswalkers matter cards.

We have currently 4 white cards that search your library for a walker and put it in hand or in play, but I think, with the right flavor, like some emotional spin on the card's flavor, it can easily work in red. Plus, after enchantment, artifact, creature, instant and sorcery are already claimed by the other tutors, there aren't many card types left.

Planebound Accomplice is just a PW-version of Sneak Attack . Red doesn't care specifically about planeswalkers. At least not yet.
