Gitaxias Without Tears

Commander (EDH) forum

I recently came upon a copy of this beautiful creature and I want more than anything for him to be my commander. However, people seem to not like it... For some ... Strange reason...

My question is, is there a way to build the deck so that people won't be sour or upset? I have no desire to cheat him into play, I want to hardcast that guy like there's no tomorrow. Is that going to be a problem? Is he too oppressive if I wait until I get to 10 mana without ramping? I love him as a card and a character, but I don't want to make the game (unreasonably) unfun for all the other players.

Is he too mean? I really hope not.

If you have a heart and sympathy for your fellow magic players, you won't play this card

He is a very hard card to let hit the board, simply because of how oppressive he is. Basically making it so everyone else has no hand, and you draw a massive amount of cards is very limiting for anyone to have to play against. That's why he is sitting at $14-15 bucks. He is that good.

If you're doing a blue Commander deck, with a commandant which accels your deck while making your friends freak out in their end steps, you'd sure get a lot of hate.

However, keeping it hidden in your deck and using Arcanis the Omnipotent or Azami, Lady of Scrolls (althought the latter is a well-known blue commandant) would make you less a target.

In short, yes. Using Jin-Gitaxias, Core Augur would make you that "guy" haha but then again if no one can deal with him (especially if you are hard casting) then they deserve to lose the game imo

I agree, he's more fun in the 99. I am playing him in Surrak Dragonclaw, because 10 mana in a green deck isn't hard, neither are "you can't counter my creature" type effects. He is also a giant douche card. Rather than play him as a commander, may I recommend, for extra fun, Kami of the Crescent Moon Draw extra cards, then once I windmill slam Jin, you discard them.

Yeah if you ramp into him in casual you're a douchebag but if you're hardcasting him without ramp then you should be fine. If your opponents can't handle him by turn ten then they need to tune their 99

well, I'd suggest at least using Omen Machine and/or Gate to the AEther to let them pseudo-draw and still play things.

He's fine. Your opponents will have plenty of time to kill you before he gets cast if they want to. Other blue decks can ruin your day with Desertion, Aethersnatch, or even just good 'ol Rubinia Soulsinger as well.I tried him as a commander, and he failed miserably because everyone was scared of him. Even having him in the 99 is risky because of Bribery.
