Should I Put Cutthroat Negotiator into these Decks?

Commander Deck Help forum

I am contemplating putting Cutthroat Negotiator into these two decks, since that creature works well with the group hug (or, in the case of Nekusar, group slug) theme that those decks have, but I am not certain what cards to remove for the negotiator.

In my Kynaios and Tiro deck, I imagine that I could replace Crystal Ball with the negotiator, since that deck already has sufficient methods of drawing cards that it should not need to worry about scrying, and I could replace Font of Mythos in my Nekusar deck, as they have the same mana value.

What does everyone else say about this? Should I put Cutthroat Negotiator into those two decks?

I cannot speak for K&T, but I think this is a bad card for Nekusar, for the same reason I suggested Font of Mythos was on your prior thread.

Yes, it gives you some value in terms of mana and a card, but you are also giving your opponents a lot of value (a single card) with a very low cost (a small bit of damage, if and only if you have other damage enablers fielded). On its own, it does little for you; even with other cards, it only provides incremental gains rather than the more explosive burns you want in order to win.

Regarding KnT, adding in Abundance seems a lot more important. This ensures you to get that additional land drop from your commander.

Caerwyn, I benefit more than do any of my opponents, which is why I am considering putting that card into my decks.

seshiro_of_the_orochi, Kynaios and Tiro allow me to play an additional land, anyway, even without additional cards that allow me to do so.

As I said, you get some incremental benefit over your opponents in the form of mana - but that does not justify running a four mana card that does a lot for your opponents as well.

There are vastly better options for the card slot - you can do much better than an expensive to cast card which doesn’t do anything the turn it drops and doesn’t even advance your victory all that much.

As I explained, Abundance guarantees you to always have two land cards at the right time. With Abundance and KnT in play, you can decide to turn your "draw for turn" into a guaranteed land. And you also can turn the card drawn with your commander into a guaranteed land. You can still decide to go for non-lands if you either don't need more lands or already have enough. Abundance is a great card for KnT.

If you want to run the pirate, that's fine, go for it. It's your deck after all. But as Caerwyn said: There are better options.

I use Stormfist Crusader over the pirate cheap on mana yes they get a card but I always fine it better when it is on my turn as much as possible it is cheaper cmc wise don't have to attack and turns on Kederekt Parasite

Look at Faerie Mastermind to give yourself extra cards for low cmc and it dropped in price

I find Anvil of Bogardan works better since they still have to discard and I get them coming and going on damage

of course the Orcish Bowmasters is good

also if you want some fun Sigil of Sleep

I am debating on how evil I want to be I just acquired a Chains of Mephistopheles who need friends when you can set up chains + Teferi's Puzzle Box nightmare and laugh to no friends
