Getting into Combo Decks

Commander Deck Help forum

Hey all.

So . . . The Start to a Combo Deck

So recently my LGS has... kicked it up a notch. The people know me there now and they aren't afraid to use their fast decks. I wouldn't really say cEDH, but Ezuri, Claw of Progress and Kumena, Tyrant of Orazca can win pretty fast.

I've always been interested in combo decks, but never really tried to make one. I picked Dakkon but know he isn't a competitive commander. Currently, he's just the one I own in the right colors. Any commander suggestions? I'm trying to use combos like Sword of the Meek + Thopter Foundry . Some other fun combos would be appreciated if you suggest them!

As said in the deck description:

I need something that can compete. Not cEDH, but maybe around 60-75%? Somethings are in there are just for fun currently, this was originally gonna be an esper flicker deck but I decided combo might let me win a bit more. I know some things to take out such as Elbrus, the Binding Blade  Flip etc.. I just need suggestions. I've been over EDHREC but cards without explanations never helps me learn.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hmmm... If you want to make a 75% combo deck, you could play artifacts with Sharuum the Hegemon. Breya is better but more expensive.

Hm, she looks interesting! I think it's either her or Zur from what posts I've gotten so far.

Yeah I really wanna stay esper. It's a personal story, but they've always been my favorite.

Zur has an insanely bad reputation. People will kill you just because they've been got by Solitary Confinement+Necropotence or other such nonsense before and they know how powerful he can be.

When it comes to building a combo deck, you're better off designing the deck around your win condition rather than just adapting an existing deck to have a combo win condition.

Start by figuring out a theme and how you want the deck to win and then go from there. An example of theme might be via graveyard loops, or by infinite mana into a sink or by Laboratory Maniac, etc. It helps to have this in mind when yo ubuild the deck because it will dictate what kind of a shell you want and will help you to balance card quantities.
