An unfriendly Atraxa-Need Help

Commander Deck Help forum

Since the precons for C16 came out I've been running an infect Atraxa build as my main deck. While I absolutely love it and it is effectively brutal, my playgroup does not enjoy going against it (even after a house rule for 15 Poison Counters to win).

Since I've put a lot of money into the deck I don't want to dismantle it but instead revamp and modify it but I don't know what to change it to. I'd like to stay away from superfriends, for monetary and personal reasons, but cannot find a functional alternative.

I've come up with an energy build:

and have fallen in love with the synergy with Winding Constrictor, but the deck overall lacks the power to compete with my playgroup.

Help or new ideas of any kind are greatly appreciated, thanks!

One idea for the infect is to put all the broken cards (I'm assuming they're mostly all UGB) into a different deck entirely, and just reserve that for when you're playing "competitive" games. Headed over to the energy deck to see what's up.

Well, infect is strong but not unbeatable. Trying to balance the format with house rules and eventually still discouraging certain strategies will lead to a dull meta...of course you can't compete with this energy stuff, but that's probably what your playgroup wanted to achieve, wasn't it?

If I was you I'd rather give your opponents some advice on how to improve their own decks, or point out some cards to beat infect instead (for example Melira, Sylvok Outcast, Humility...). It's easier to convince them that your deck isn't unbeatable than trying to win against notoriously complaining opponents without having them complain.

Winterblast, the problem with my infect deck isn't that it's unbeatable, its actually the exact opposite. When I pull out the deck I'm effectively playing archenemy without the schemes to help me because everyone targets me before I can kill anyone.

Well, then why not improve your deck so that you can withstand 2 or 3 opponents? I've put together a low budget list as a suggestion for a friend who plays Atraxa infect...I'm pretty sure you can deal with at least two people running something like that:

If you have a higher budget, replace the manabase with fetchlands and duals.

Here's my infect list if you'd like to look over it a little. Primarily it focus on making my creatures unblockable and then pumping them to too much/too much, but it can also play more controlling and go for the long game of slowly proliferating everyone to death.

You can always voltron her as well. Her colors can run every single card with exalted, so thats an option. Or just stack her up with counters, auras, and equipment and smash face

Voltron was actually one of my ideas of what to do with her, my other idea was actually an aristocrats+Grave Pact type build with Meren of Clan Nel Toth + Ezuri, Claw of Progress to abuse experience counters and cards like Cathars' Crusade to empty my opponents' boards and then overwhelm them with huge creatures, ideally of course.

Another idea for Atraxa I wanted to build was this:

Atraxa Stax

I haven't tested it in reality because I didn't have the Doubling Season until last week. And I would say you definitely need that one for the worst possible tricks...

Alone the possibility of keeping a Tangle Wire constantly at 4 counters with Atraxa is nice, but there are tons of other interactions that are already powerful alone but much better with the commander. It's probably not cheap to assemble, depending on what is already in your card pool.
